It was there yesterday too. It's very bizarre. What does it want?

Food.

And love.

They are territorial. He can see his reflection and is trying to scare it away. Maybe muddy your window up a bit?

EvilPea · 12/02/2022 13:42

I had one that did this. It used to wake us up.

I believe they pick creatures out of spider webs and some use the webs in nesting. That was the only logical explanation I could find. But mine did it for years so it wasn’t that!!

Enjoy your new friend!

OhFuckBloodyHell · 12/02/2022 13:42

It's fighting its reflection. I had this with a chaffinch, I stuck something on the window for a bit and it went away. I was worried it would hurt itself - it did it for hours!

My friend has this whenever the birdbath is empty. They keep pecking until she goes out and refills it. They have her very well trained.

He's having a fight with his own reflection. My resident blue tit gets all territorial at this time every year, and takes it out on his adversary in the window!

N0T0RI0US · 12/02/2022 13:47

Daft birdy! It's very persistent. I'm worried it's going to knock itself out!

I had a bluetit friend! He used to peck the bedroom window, and a few times came and sat on my car wing mirror. He was lovely.

NuffSaidSam · 12/02/2022 13:49

It wants you.

You're the chosen one.

Accept your fate.

Isthisjustnormal · 12/02/2022 13:51

There are a few options:

  • it can see its reflection and is trying to fight. its getting towards mating season when that territorial and aggressive behaviour increases. I’ve seen blackbirds, tits and robins do this.
  • your window sill and the corners of the frame is full of tasty spiders and little insects
  • it’s telling you to fill the bird feeder (I’ve heard of lots of robins who do this - my granny had one who would come and peck on the window until she put its daily mealworms out!
DropYourSword · 12/02/2022 13:51

In. It wants in!

Lightning020 · 12/02/2022 14:09

How sweet.

When I was putting the Xmas tree up in December, a little Robin came right up the the window on the decking and stood watching me! It was so lovely, made my day.

I was working for a Harley Street specialist a few years ago. His consulting room was at the back of the house and had a small balcony. He got a trendy gardening company to put in 2 black planters of flowers on it as a pleasant view for the patients. The local blackbird spent hours every single day trying to scare away his reflection in the shiny black planters. The pecking was so noisy that it interrupted the consultations. We had to get the trendy gardeners to exchange the planters for a non-reflective sort.

BarbaraofSeville · 12/02/2022 15:17

I had this at the beginning of the first lockdown. A blue tit came and shouted at me through the kitchen window for 10 minutes at 9 am every day for a week.

SpiderVersed · 12/02/2022 15:19

Yes, it's fighting with a terrible interloper who magically mirrors his every effort.

Poor daft wee thing. We had one do that for days.I taped paper on the outside of the window for a couple of days and he stopped.

TheVolturi · 12/02/2022 16:56

Did anyone hear about the hundreds of birds that fell from the sky in Wales a couple of days ago?
