Did your DC move schools in year 9? (Or did you?) How was it?

Was it massively disruptive? Did they cope OK?

Thinking of moving but weighing up whether it's worth it, with the impact on DS.

I know a huge amount depends on the individual and the circumstances. But I'd still like to hear your stories, if anyone has done this?

Thanks :)

This may be helpful, though it is about y10 www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4476054-Moving-GCSE-childs-school

Obviously there will be social aspects.
But also consider when current and new school start GCSE curriculum, or even selecting options.
Much better to move now than mid y10 though!

A lot of private schools intake at year 9, either to start or join existing cohorts.

I did. Dd enrolled at the school I work in, she says it was the best decision she ever made.

Mine did. He’s about to do it for the second time in the same year.. year 9. He’s fine.

In year 10 and it was the best thing we did for dc.
Dc has autism and was struggling anyway. We had no choice but to move due to health issues.
Dc went from predicted grades of 2/3 to passing every exam between grade 4-6.
I think it would depend on reasons why the move was important to the whole family, dc current school situation, new school situation, are dc on board?
Wouldn't discount it as an option but if possible I would do it in year 9 rather than year 10.

I did. I REALLY didn't want to. I was so upset with my parents for making me move. But it couldn't be helped. I did settle in very quickly and made some good friends. We only stayed there 3 years but I still keep in touch with some of the people.

At the time I thought it was the end of the world and the school was twice the size of my old one so it was daunting but I managed.
