Charitable Giving

In the last 24 hours, I've ready articles about how little two charities are giving to good causes as a percentage of total raised. Captain Tom Foundation and Naomi Campbell's charity specifically I haven't done actually research aside from what I've read online in the media nor have I examined the finances of either charity.
It's led me to wonder though, how much do people expect when they give to charity, is actually going to good causes vs what is being spent on fundraising, staff, marketing and "lavish parties" (looking at you, Naomi).

I don't give to either of these charities but it has led me to wonder whether I should be looking at the accounts of those charities I do contribute to.

I know what you mean. I give to 6 different charities. One is local to me though and they are very transparent on what the money goes on. I think local rather than nationwide charities may be the way to go.

It is of course important that charities are transparent with funds, and no doubt some are mismanaged, I find the attitude that charities spending money on staff (who in the majority of cases are underpaid according to market rates) and operating costs so frustrating. Charities need to be managed well, and adhere to a great number of regs in many cases, and need good people to do that. This Ted Talk is worthwhile viewing on the topic

Thanks. I'll have a read of that tonight.
