How much have rental/property prices risen where you are?

I’m bloody shocked at how much they have risen here. We’re Black Country, West Midlands.

We moved here two years ago, dh is from here and we were getting priced out of even renting in the SE, not a hope of ever buying there unless we won the lottery.

I’ve been looking on Rightmove recently as I am going to have to rent out a relatives property now they are going into a home and a few of the places we looked at renting when we first came here are on the market again for £250 to £300 a month than they were 2 years ago.

We bought our current house a year ago for £175k. Now, there is nothing even comparable for less than £210k. We bought at the top of our budget - if we would have waited, we would have been priced out of the market here too for buying anywhere.

It’s absolutely crazy here, houses are on for a week and then they are gone.

It’s not the nicest of places either (dh words too having been born and bred here), I’m shocked that a three bed to rent is around £900 a month now.

We need to move as our house is a rabbit hutch sized back to back with noisy neighbours, for the same sized house on the same street it's £250 more than were paying now, 3 beds are around £750-900 and we're in quite a poor area of West Yorkshire. Literally no body I know can afford to move house and quite a few are having their rents put up so they're going into lesser accommodation because they're priced out. I can't have another child because we can't move.. we both work. It's so unfair.

In 2020 I was paying £475 for a 2 bed terrace, which realistically should have been £550 max. It would be £695 now. Currently renting a 3 bed new build for £760, next door just went on RM for £950. It's shocking.

We pay £850 for our 3 bed in a lovely rural village in South East. Cheap because we've been here 10 years and it was scruffy back then. Rent only increased once so far. A 3 bed in the area now is £1400 min, if you can find one. If landlord sells we will have to move at least 30mins away and even then will be paying a lot more than we are. Add the energy rise and other costs of living, we'll be screwed...

@dangermouseisace

It’s ridiculous. Things are completely overpriced though- how are people getting mortgages? My house had a valuation (rental) and opposite has gone on the market for 125,000 more and people are travelling long distances to view it! The only difference is that it’s a tiny bit bigger. Mine is better maintained!

People can’t keep moving to “cheaper” areas. This was a “cheap” area, and it’s not any longer.

Exactly! This was our cheaper area to move to (plus in laws still here etc).

It’s not that way now, two years on.

I don’t know what we would have done if we hadn’t managed to buy this place last year. There is nothing now and with an older teen ds and two much younger dds we needed 3 bedrooms.

I have no idea where would have had to go.
