How rich would you have to be to fly business instead of economy on hols?

Just checked and a long haul flight from London to NYC in business would be £4300 vs. £550 for economy i.e. it's almost 8 times more to fly business, and that's just for one person.

I can't conceive of ever being rich enough to pay that much - or maybe it's more that I just don't think there is enough value in the (admittedly very increased!) comfort of the business class seat.

I'd rather spend the money on a nice hotel or meals, or travel more often (not very green I know) but curious whether others feel differently.

What about you?

We're comfortable but not rich, and probably not that comfortable by mumsnet standards. Will happily use budget airlines for Europe and would fly economy to New York. Have flown business to Australia, cost a fair amount as didn't use points but equally don't go to Australia every year so justified the cost. It was a treat, and not something we could do every time but can do occasionally if we've not spent lots on other things that year. I've also flown to Asia business class but will happily fly there economy also if that's where my finances are that year.

Flew upper class back from Barbados this weekend £68 extra ( we were In premium originally) Grin use credit cards to earn points/vouchers. If you're patient enough you can usually always get a deal to upgrade without too much cost

My Dad used to say to me that a painting is worth what you will pay for it. Can you afford it? Do you want to? We normally fly 1st when we can. I wouldn't actually get on a plane long haul economy. I'd rather not go. Personal preference.

I fly business all the time. I use avios points mainly to do so. Booked two business class flights to Orlando for about £700 plus avious. Some of them are as low as £3.,

Or get them in sales

We nearly always fly business or first. My husband has loads and loads of air miles to fly so we use them plus complimentary upgrade vouchers (we get business then upgrade to first for free) As pps have mentioned there are also plenty of deals around.

I don't really like flying though 😅
