Anyone use these? I'm thinking of buying one but I vaguely remember them being not recommended for some reasons?

This thread is a little old now, but if you've landed here looking for recommendations, we've recently updated our best washer dryer and best integrated washer dryer pages with lots of great options, tried, tested and recommended by Mumsnet users. We hope they're helpful.

I have one, it takes about 4 or 5 hours to dry towels!! But I previously had no drier and it took about 2 days on the airer, so this is an improvement for me 😂 also I get cheap electricity overnight (electric car so this works for us) so I time it to finish washing as the cheap electricity starts so all the drying is cheap.
As a PP says though, everything comes out INCREDIBLY creased from drying. Not sure what I’m doing wrong there, I thought tumble drying meant you could skip ironing??

We had them, and they're ok for the very very occasional drying of stuff. The dryer takes forever which in itself isn't the worst thing BUT it means you can't use the washing machine for the entire time it's drying.

This is fine it you do regular washing over a week and don't let it pile up. But we end up doing 5 loads on a Saturday back to back so it doesn't work.

It's because the drum of a washer dryer is much much smaller than the drum of a stand alone dryer. This increases time clothes stay damp (and crumpled) and means they don't have room to billow properly and decrease.

@Woahthehorsey thanks that makes sense!

The Samsung one is brilliant

We have a Miele and it's run trouble free for 7 years now. We only use the dryer in the winter for pants/socks, towels and bedding. We have a heated airer and as soon as the weather gets reasonable, I line dry.

The capacity of our dryer function is less than the main wash maximum load, so you need to put less in to wash if you're doing a combined wash and dry cycle. I tend to put a regular full wash on and then separate manually for either the airer or to tumble dry. It means I can wash a mixed load of clothes and just tumble dry the suitable ones.

The other factor to consider is that you can't do a wash while drying, which is obvious but if you use the dryer lots, it will take you longer to get through your washing.
