A question for BAME MNers

How often do you see your parents and siblings (presuming you're in the same city/town/village)?

Sometimes when I read threads on here I feel I can't relate to how often people see their family, with people being told their family are UR for wanting to see them more than once a month or so. Of course, there are many people who aren't BAME who see their family far more regularly, but I know that my parents would find it very odd and would be unhappy if I didn't see them at least once a week. To general MN their expectations would probably seem far too high but this is normal amongst my BAME family and friends, even though we come from a variety of cultures e.g. south Asian, Arab, north African etc. There just seems to be a common understanding that family get together as often as possible and although I like spending time together, I know other BAME friends who try and resist this expectation too!

At least twice a week. And we all have keys to eachother's houses. My sister for example will come round with some groceries, make herself a cup of tea etc if I'm not home. I'll always go over to hers on a Friday. Same with my mother.

Birth family, never.

Actual family, a lot, Grandma visits whenever she wishes and stays as long as she wishes. A family home is home for all of the family.

Not as often as I’d like because of distance. Speak regularly and when we do visit, always stay for a few days. Probably about 6 time’s a year. My nieces and nephews come and stay in school holidays because they want to spend time with family too.
