Or children roughly that age. One adult. I'd like to take them swimming but they're not keen.

I have an almost 9yo. Indoor crazy golf and pizza afterwards is a favourite.

Hellocatshome · 10/02/2022 17:47

Clip n Climb
Ice skating
Swimming
Geo caching
Dog walking (if you haven't got one borrow one)

ReturnOfTheBlackSheep · 10/02/2022 17:50

Oh, I couldn't take mine swimming. I can't be in two places at once, sounds like a nightmare!

I like kicking them out to play with their friends taking them on a hike somewhere when it's warm, usually somewhere with a playground or water. Else a museum or the zoo. Not a fan of art galleries. Or I take them for a run in the forest and then let them decide for the rest of the day.

Why would you need to be in two places at once if you took them swimming?

ChildrenGrowingUpTooFast · 10/02/2022 17:53

Mine are similar aged and love ice skating. We are do treasure trails. (They aren’t keen on walking for no reasons).

itwasntaparty · 10/02/2022 17:55

Swimming
Dog walking - they ALWAYS moan but have a good time when we are out in the woods
Cinema
Bike rides
Mine are a bit obsessed with horses which takes up a lot of time
Generally, if they do a couple of hours outdoors doing something I'm happy

Because knowing my two they'd want to swim in different directions! (And one can't swim; and can't go to the indoor pool alone with them as he's too old for the ladies changing room)

Wotrewelookinat · 10/02/2022 18:20

Ky kids loved indoor climbing at those ages.

Xiaoxiong · 10/02/2022 18:24

Mine are 8 and 10. They love board games, building pillow forts, going to the cinema, riding around on the top of buses, going for sushi with the conveyor belt, going to the library/Waterstones kids section, and cooking with me (sometimes). Also visiting the fish at our local garden centre that has an aquarium store attached. Museums too though they always want me to buy them tat in the gift shop.

They're not keen on walks (I think they got their fill over the last 2 years!!) but sometimes can be enticed out with the litter pickers if I promise to carry the full bags afterwards.

oishutup · 10/02/2022 18:32

Ice-skating, bowling, walks that end with a playground, pottery painting, cinema.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 10/02/2022 18:34

Swimming is great now. The kids go in the family section and mess around. Both of them can swim competently. I lane swim next to them, check them regularly, just by looking (same pool just separated by a rope float thing). I swim 50 lengths then we all get out and they do their own showers. Snack in the cafe then home and they're really subdued for the rest of the day

Taking the canoe out and camping.
The zoo (10 mins away, we have season tickets)
Meeting up with friends

notacooldad · 10/02/2022 18:40

At 8 and 11 ( mine were the same age gap) they would go swimming with their mates ( without me)

We would go and stay in a youth hostel in lake district or Derbyshire usually once a month ( we did this for years) and go hiking on the fells and moors.
We also used to go to Scotland Friday night till Sunday night mountain biking.
Other things were hoing to the Chill factor.Actually that's about it, swimming walking, cycling and skiing. We didnt do much else. We used to go to the cinema midweek on the cold Orange Wednesday!

horseymum · 10/02/2022 18:47

Castle and a cafe? Orienteering at a country park ( then cafe). Geocaching also free. Pony trekking if you want to splash out. Hire a tandem somewhere and take turns on it get the other bike a size both would fit. A boat trip or canal trip. I've skating. All depends how much money you want to spend. Film on telly and make your own pop corn.

Hedonism · 10/02/2022 18:52

Mine are 11 & 7.

Cinema
Swimming
Library
Park
Charity shops for a rummage
Board games / card games
Bike ride
Trampolining
Play dates
Lego

They actually love a national trust or English heritage trip, but they think that they hate it and I have to endure all the moaning until we get there and then they have a lovely time.

Peabody25 · 10/02/2022 18:53

We've got an 8 year old DS and we've done bike rides, an escape room, long walks with somewhere interesting to end up, national trust sites with playgrounds, go ape, cinema, geo caching, Pokémon go walks, rock climbing

In the house Lego building, tournaments on the switch, film and goodies, chilled afternoon reading.

We see family Saturday and he has football most Sunday mornings, so Sunday afternoons are usually pretty chilled.
