Hi all hope you can help
Please, I have chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia but have been feeling worse than usual for the past year. The fatigue is beyond awful and I'm
Sleeping for hours at a time during the day and just feel absolutely wiped out

I was told my transferrin was high so started iron tablets but despite the transferrin reducing and ferritin increasing, The actual iron reading has gone down? They've prescribed more iron but have said it's not that low

Have attached blood results for ease. In discussions with GP / getting a second opinion regarding the cholesterol

Watching with huge interest as I too have CFS/fibro and I am really struggling.

I do know from reading pp on MN that Drs are very keen on telling you results are “normal” but normal isn’t necessarily optimal. I can’t get my ferritin up, it keeps dropping, & I don’t even have periods! The Drs aren’t interested in finding out why.

I can’t see your results clearly -have you been checked for coeliac? And have you had B12/folate checked?

Seemingly lots of CFS suffers have B12 in the lower range of normal & you can still be symptomatic in the lower range of normal. Many people buy B12 and get it shipped in from Germany & self inject because normal ranges in the U.K. are a lot lower than elsewhere & you can buy B12 to self inject in Germany. Mine arrived really quickly, although it hasn’t actually made me feel any better tbh.

I can see your cholesterol figures and see cholesterol & triglycerides have increased. Do you drink alcohol? I know that can affect triglycerides as the dr asked me if I drank when mine increased one time! I gave up alcohol a couple of years ago in the hope of feeling better to no effect.

How is your Vitamin D? I’ve read many CFS sufferers also have low Vit D.

I hope someone knowledgeable in results pop along soon & can read your results, they mostly look blurry to me & I can only make out the odd words I’m familiar with.

Sorry for the blurry picture! Not sure why it's so bad.

So yes, my B12 is 748 (range is 180 - 2000). I don't have a spleen and I once read a blog that said asplenic patients need more B12 and iron than people with spleens. I can't find the blog now annoyingly

Vitamin D is 90. 50 is deemed normal but I've read on here that it should be 120-140

I've been checked for coeliac via the cal protectin test and also endoscopy and it came back fine

I don't drink Alcohol at all! Never have. My cholesterol went up 10 years ago when I had major surgery. Apparently the liver pumps it out to help healing. But they are getting a second opinion on it now that it's been so long

Don't know much about bloods but uour cholesterol levels are high at 6.8 along with trigs.
Does your GP want you on a statin?

@MEFibroHell posted too early.

Thanks for responding, how long have you had ME? I've had symptoms of ME since my teenage years and in my early 20's they found a tumour and I had major surgery - it brought on fibromyalgia symptoms but I wasn't diagnosed until years later. They only diagnosed the ME last month Envy

I feel like the Covid vaccinations have really worsened my baseline hence I am desperate for some positive change

They are getting a second opinion and going to call me back

Is this a one off blood test or have you had a blood test for the same thing in the past year?
In other words, has cholesterol risen over time due to lifestyle or is it like before when you had the op?

As far as I know it was fine before my surgery 10 years ago. It was after the surgery it went up and they explained it by saying the liver pumps out cholesterol to Help With healing

So your cholesterol levels haven't gone back down in ten years?! And you've not been on medication for it???

Teenylittlefella · 10/02/2022 20:15

You have had consistently high platelets for 3 years at least. Anyone investigated that?

Yep.. it's been measured a few times but I don't think it's been high enough then perhaps

Again, they went up post surgery when I had my spleen removed. The rheumatologist has asked the GP to write to the blood specialists finally, I need to chase this up

Platlets are high because you don't have a spleen. It's normal for anyone who has had a Splenectomy.

onwardsandupwards22 · 11/02/2022 09:21

Does anyone know why the transferrin has reduced/ ferritin increased but iron dropped?
