When did you stop reading bedtime stories?

So my oldest kids (twins) have just turned 9 and we are still reading a bed time story every night (except if they have a late night or a late club). While I do like it, as they get older it becomes more of an imposition on my evening particularly as we go back to the office and they stay up later. They do love it and we are reading more interesting books but often you can’t get away with less than a chapter which can take at least 20 mins.

So MN jury, what did you do?

(We do audio books at other times but they would not currently be impressed to swap bed time stories for Audio books at the moment!)

Still reading to my 15 year old - he wants so little else to do with me that I really love it.

When they were older and out at clubs with less time at bedtime we switched to reading in the car before school as we had a wait between drop offs. This carried on until they left primary school. I still do it with my youngest who is in year six.

I stopped with my older children when they were about 9 and 10 . IWe all enjoyed it and I regretted it. I would read to them both together and they took turns to choose the book.We had a demanding baby /toddler by then who hugely disrupted the evenings and had a lot of hospital admissions so it just petered out. The youngest child never had stories read to them beyond about 5 or 6 due to our evening routine being compressed by my work and childrens various timetables.
