Power corrupts.

Whatwouldscullydo · 09/02/2022 09:34

I think its inevitable that when human beings are given power of any kind it results in things like this. How could the thrill of being able to think these things and say these things whilst simultaneously arresting people for far less , not lead to a force made up of people predominantly men, who are like this.

Most humans can't really handle the power tbh.

How many could realky be around something all the time, seeing people getting away with all sorts if disturbing behaviours , and not even be tempted to try it themselves. Especially when both matter how much if an arsehole you are, people will still just be grateful you even showed up.

The current climate of the modern day " burn the witch" has given everyone an acceptable reason to behave this way too.

Dogsaresomucheasier · 09/02/2022 09:57

I doubt it’s new, but it needs correcting, along with politics.

Fujimora · 09/02/2022 10:11

I do not think this is anything new. The Police reflect the wider society from which they are recruited.

On the bright side, this is now being addressed.

FirstAconite · 09/02/2022 10:13

It's always been like this. It's just the conversations they have now leave a digital footprint.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 09/02/2022 10:26

Stanford Prison Experiment.

A lot of people don't have the character and self control to behave in a decent and ethical manner, both in, and away from, work.

emuloc · 09/02/2022 11:04

The police have always been like this. I am not sure why some people are so surprised.

MayThePawsBeWithYou · 09/02/2022 11:16

Its not new, in 30 years working in healthcare in London I cannot remember ever meeting a decent police officer, they were all rude and nasty bullies who treated patients with absolute disdain.

MrsBerthaRochester · 09/02/2022 11:50

Im not surprised. My own expetiences with the police both as a child and an adult were not positive and my most recent experience with them, while in the midst of a mental breakdown, was appalling. As a previous poster said bullies. And very often racist and sexist to.

emuloc · 09/02/2022 11:52

It remains to be seen, what Cressida is going to do about the rot in the Police force, considering how useless she has been.

AssignedBlobbyAtBirth · 09/02/2022 12:12

Violence VAWG is on the increase, women's rights are on the decline. The police have always attracted misogynistic authoritarians and, as the numbers grow in society, the numbers rise in the police. And we are more aware
Too many women are not interested/aware about their rights

EishetChayil · 09/02/2022 12:43

You'll probably have someone piping up that their husband is a copper and he's a wonderful man, but in my experience, they're all corrupt misogynists.

formalineadeline · 09/02/2022 12:50

Why do you think this is new?

Crinkle77 · 09/02/2022 13:01

@Dogsaresomucheasier

I doubt it’s new, but it needs correcting, along with politics.
Yep this is not a new thing. The 'boys club' is well known as is corruption. I'm not saying all police officers are like that but it is prevalent.
Ontheblink · 10/02/2022 15:34

FirstAconite

Yes, definitely agree that it’s not new and the fact that we now have digital proof is what is different. What is worrying is that it has gotten worse not better so clearly Cressida is not prioritising the issues. She needs to go.
