Question about the legality of masks on flights

We are due to fly long haul next week out of London and have had covid last week and recovered. (I say recovered, had no symptoms)

I see that BA are still saying that masks are mandatory but is this legally enforceable? I was surprised to see it because I the mask mandate has been lifted in England now. Is this just a "recommended" from BA or can they actually throw you off if you're asleep and not wearing one?

Yes it’s condition of carriage. I work for a different long haul airline, and I spend most of the flight doing pa’s or walking round reminding people to put their masks back on.
I had one fella hold a soggy croissant in his hand for 10 hours on the way to LA and every time he was asked to put a mask on, he held it to his mouth and said “but I’m eating”!!
What I hate a million times more than the non mask wearers though, is the tell tales who spend the whole flight running into the galley telling me which seat numbers haven’t got their mask on!!Grin
FML can’t be arsed with any of it, non of us want to wear a mask for that long and at altitude, but it’s been 18 months now, just wear the sodding mask!

Search for "Karen" "mask" "airplane" on TikTok and you'll find endless videos of people getting kicked off flights for not wearing masks.

From an airline’s POV, insisting that passengers wear masks on board is a no brainier. Firstly because any mitigation of disease spread on board is helpful. They want as few of their crew as possible to be infected & off work, for obvious reasons.

Secondly, because it is a very visible way of hammering home the message that ‘Safety is our First Priority.’ A surprising number of people are still apprehensive about flying, so in a world in which customer confidence is still extremely fragile anything which can be done to reassure passengers is vital.
