Physics homework HELP!!

I could write a whole other thread about feeling like I'm doing my exams all over again and how soul destroying it is being a parent to a child who doesn't want to stuff, but for now I'll gently weep about my (DS's) 0% in the recent homework
I reckoned to have understood it and worked on the formulas from bitesize but no. All wrong and just a Red Cross by the answers. Zero comments from teacher and a garbled tale from son about it having been too hard and everyone got it wrong. So could be the reason for no feedback if they're going to do it again and it was the 30th fully wrong paper! So... here's a pic and here's a pic of our first answers (all wrong)
I hate physics as a subject btw! But I can see he's struggling and desperately want to help him. Any experts please? 🙏thank you

That's a copy of a CGP question booklet.

If the school hasn't provided it, your son would probably benefit from the CGP "complete revision & practice" book and/or the CGP "The revision guide". Both explain things in very simple terms, just the basic facts and not a lot of waffle that the "proper" text books can contain. They also have answers in the back, so he (you) can do a question, check it's right, before moving on to harder ones, thus saving you wasting time and getting demoralised.

Thank you SO much!! It was set as an obvious photocopy but not obvious where from. I'll have a search. That's so helpful thank you

Physics teacher here! The pic is really small because I am on my phone, but it looks like he needs to do 2 step calculations for these: firstly, use the latent heat equation to work out the energy needed to melt the ice. Secondly, use the specific heat capacity equation to calculate the energy needs to raise the temperature of the water. Then add the two numbers together to get the final answer.

I think in the first question you need to calculate the energy required to melt the ice first using the specific latent heat equation then calculate the energy required to raise the temp of the water from 0 to 15 degrees C using the specific heat capacity equation and finally add the 2 together.

@Rosieumbrella thank you. I think I get it now you've said that! We were on the right track but went down the wrong path from the get go. If I ever get my head round this, I've done ok in my other efforts 😅. Maybe I'll sit the exam with him ! Apologies for saying I hate physics. 😳

Ha ha no problem, I hear worse at school!

@Rosieumbrella I'm really sorry miss. I'm trying to keep it real with how this stuff is used and why I'm awful at some stuff we all need to know in life. DH just said it'd be great to be a parent that doesn't care. I so want him to do well and he gets so down when he (I in this case) get it wrong. Ho hum. Still got time yet
