help - earring holes closed on DD

DD took them out after a couple of days short of 6 weeks. They've closed up overnight, from the back. Is there anything else we can do except go back and get them repierced? Much sadness in the house tonight Sad

Dd had hers done over 10 years ago and they start closing up rely easily.
What I've found best is if you can spot the dimple at the back of the lobe, often it goes fairly easily in backwards.
Once you've done that it's easy from the front.

Put it in back to front if the hole is still visible from the back- that’ll open it up then you can put it in the right way round.
They’re a bloody nightmare, I feel your pain!

Wait till she’s asleep and push it back through, we’ve had this a few times. We were lucky we had some Emla cream so stuck a bit of that on waited and then did it, didn’t feel a thing. Might be worth ordering some emla cream and trying that.

We had it done at Superdrug - really nice knowledgeable piercer

That statement is rather an oxymoron! Go to a decent piercing place for actual knowledgeable piercers.

@Pyriah

Can holes close up years after being pierced? I had mine done over a decade ago, one day I just couldn’t get an earring in and I daren’t push.
I had mine done nearly 30 years ago. I realised the other day that I'd not worn earrings since before the start of the pandemic, but had something specific to go to & wanted to wear some. Mine had definitely healed up a bit at the back, it took a few minutes & a bit of persuasion to get them through. They're ok now & I've been wearing studs daily since then just in case.

I've recently gone through mine with a sterilised needle because the back was slightly healed after barely wearing any in two years, but an adult doing it themselves to a well established piercing is different to on a child with a new, partially-formed piercing.

I'd try finding a place that does needle piercings. I did gun piercings many years ago at a high st shop and one thing we had drummed into us was never to go through scar tissue, so trying to do a gun piercing through a partially pierced ear could be problematic for good healing.

If there is scar tissue there, it will feel firmer/ lumpy around the piercing.

We had this with DD2 last year. She got them pierced in July and in October had left them out for about 4 days. We tried and tried to no avail. Eventually we had the brainwave of holding ice to the back of the lobe then just going for it. They went through in seconds with no pain and have been fine ever since.
