Any help with blood clotting issues

I have posted this elsewhere but no replies. I've been told I've got low protein S, which I didn't even know what it was until I googled it, still not quite sure how it relates to pregnancy. Has anyone else got this ? And can Inform me ?
Just got results back from my blood test done at ivf clinic and I've been told my protein s is low and need to start on heparin injections.
Has anyone been in this situation before ?
Does protein S deficiency cause miscarriage ? I had a mmc in November so shitting myself again now

Thanks

Hi, @thunderonlyhappenswhenits
I'm sorry no one else has replied to you. I don't think I will be much help but just wanted to offer a handhold.
One of my adopted dds has protein c deficiency. I believe it's a genetic condition? Her birth mum had either protein c or protein s deficiency, or both, I'm not sure, and she did have some miscarriages BUT bear in mind she was a drug addict, had problems with alcohol, no doubt a very poor diet and a very unstable lifestyle. She did give birth to four surviving children. My dds were premature, not sure about their brothers, but again that might be due to other factors.
Dd who has the condition has never really had any problems with it. She only has a mild form of it, but when she was little I was told to try to keep her at a healthy weight and fairly active, and to give her plenty of fluids. She's had to have several knee surgeries and the hospital staff made sure to get her up quickly and not let her lie around after.
She also can't take the regular pill or morning after pill.
I'm just mentioning these things in case your little one has it.
My advice would be to ask your midwife or GP, and try not to stress. Easier said than done, I know.
Fingers crossed all goes well.

@Papergirl1968 thank you !! It's a shame no one else has replied but online it says it's quite rare, so maybe this is why?
I will be mentioning it to my midwife definitely. Don't know if they will now consider this a high risk pregnancy ?
Just want everything to work out okay so much !!

I agree the lack of responses is probably is because it's rare.
I'm guessing you've had protein s deficiency all your life and never realised.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you that this little bean sticks.

@Papergirl1968 yes I must have, only picked up during routine blood tests from my ivf clinic but obviously glad to know now.
Really grateful for your reply. I've got a little info from online but it's always good to hear from someone in real life about things

I don't know if it's a protein deficiency but I have Factor V Lieden which was only discovered after a Stillbirth. I needed a Heparin injection and an Aspirin tablet every day during pregnancy. This was I was extremely well monitored and fortunately my next pregnancy was successful.

thunderonlyhappenswhenits · 11/02/2022 19:50

@user1471517095 oh gosh I'm sorry to hear that how awful for you.

I was tested for that but came back normal. Also protein c came back normal so it was just protein s that was low.
I'm also now on heparin injections. Just guess I'm wondering more than anything how this disorder can cause miscarriage as I can't seem to find much info that side of things

Again I don't have the same thing but I have antiphospholipid syndrome which is essentially "sticky blood" that's more prone to clotting. It's not an issue in everyday life & I don't take thinners ordinarily however for situations that MAY cause clotting risks I cover these by taking fragmin blood thinning injections. Like a flight of longer than 4 hours, surgery and things like that. However, for TTC (and ivf) I should've been told that getting a BFP increases clotting risks & I should take thinners. For the first time I got pregnant with ivf I didn't know this & I had a MMC. For other ivf I was told to take 75mg of aspirin throughout & if I got a BFP I would be put on fragmin. 2 rounds of ivf didn't work then I got pregnant naturally, was prescribed 150mg per day aspirin & also daily fragmin injections. Miscarried that one.
BFP 3 & I took 150mg per day & daily fragmin injections, I also took progesterone daily for first trimester. I'm now 26 weeks & still on 150mg of aspirin daily & the fragmin.

I was told that things like my blood being prone to clotting isn't likely the cause of my MMC & MC but it's something we could try to assist with just in case. So I'd say it shouldn't harm your current pregnancy & managing it & shouldn't cause miscarriage, but having it managed can only help your chances of maintaining a successful pregnancy. I think it would be a high risk factor, im high risk but I have "3" high risk issues

I had to search hard for an explanation 're the link to miscarriage but finally found it. It is due to the blood flow through the placenta - screenshot attached.
There is a possibility DD is pregnant. Not ideal at 17, obviously, but she can't take the pill or morning after pill because of her protein c deficiency.

I did forget to mention (but papergirl1968 reminded me) after 20 weeks I also had a Doppler Scan every 2 weeks until Labour was induced 2 weeks early. Not for any emergency but that my consultant erred on the side of caution. Don't worry, you will be well taken care of.
