How many hours sleep for you to feel rested?

Like really rested, not just enough to function quite well but you feel fully recharged?

I'm 27 and I've felt exhausted for years. It's gotten a lot worse in the last year to the point that sometimes I cant stop myself from falling asleep. Ie, sitting on my phone/on the bus/sometimes even on my break at work I can nod off! On Christmas Day at around 7pm, I was sitting upright having a conversation with my mum and while she was speaking I fell asleep. I hadn't even had any alcohol!

I've had bloods done numerous times and they always come back normal. I'm overweight but eat a balanced diet and I also take a multivitamin, an iron supplement and a b-complex supplement. I added the iron and b-complex about 4 months ago.

Last night I was exhausted by about half 6, So let myself have a lie down. I m off work this week so thought if I sleep right through it's fine as I didn't have to have anything organised for work. I woke up at half 7 this morning!! So 13 hours. I feel amazing this morning, fully rested.

It's surely not normal to need that much sleep to feel normal though?!

I agree, that's not a normal amount of sleep to need. For me it's not so much the length but the quality. 7 hours of good quality sleep will leave me feeling much better rested than 10 hours of broken sleep.

Have you been evaluated for things like sleep apnea that could be reducing the quality of your sleep?

InRoseBlush · 07/02/2022 12:05

@Kinsters My GP has never mentioned sleep apnea but have had a google and it's a definite possibility as I do snore. I'll give them a call to discuss it. Is it okay to just say "I think I may have sleep apnea and would like it to be investigated"?

I think it's worth investigating if there's an underlying cause because that doesnt sound normal. Now and again it might be normal for you to catch up on sleep like that if you've been particularly tired. I need about 6 hours to function normally but 8 hours if I'm to wake up and feel fully energised.

About 8 hours of good quality sleep, but it needs to be consistent. If I have a few days in a row of poor/no sleep then it takes a week of good sleep to recover.

At least 8 hrs but preferably 10. Not that I get that often I have 2 little ones.

If I don’t set an alarm I can sleep for 11 hours!
But when I’ve got work I can get up when my alarm goes after 7-8 hours and feel fine.

I can also take myself up and nap for an hour. I set my alarm and I will honestly shut my eyes and I’m off! No mucking about, I go straight to sleep.

Somebodylikeyew · 07/02/2022 12:34

9 is my optimal number where i wake up feeling properly rested. I rarely get it though!

TulipVictory · 07/02/2022 12:38

I think it actually takes a good 10-11 hours for me to feel fully rested 🙈 rarely get that though
