Just a moan but I would say they'd had a good day. Lazy morning with screens, quick pop to Tesco to get polo shirts and socks and then a session at a trampoline/ play place. Got home everyone happy until I say no to more computer time, time to tidy bedroom/ put away clean laundry so ready for the school week and the moaning melodrama from the 9yo. Apparently he has had the worst day EVER, his feet hurt from too much bouncing and I made him drink water instead of buying him a slushie when he was hot. It's just all so unfair and I'm a meanie who is bullying him.

My god is this the teenage whinge starting already? He actually lay down on the landing for extra emphasis.

How do you deal with this sort of behaviour? It's beyond annoying if you react he escalates. I've said he can choose not to tidy his room and I'm not doing it for him but there are no screens until it's done.

I think I'd ignore the dramatics, but get everyone else to tidy/do as instructed and reward when done.
If 9yo moans they haven't had the reward I'd remind them they hadn't tidied/put away etc

Everyone gets moany when they're tired or hungry.

I didn't negotiate.
He is part of the family and would do his share of stuff.
I didn't give rewards for being a family member helping with family stuff, it was expected and mine did it !

Don't pander to it. Leave him lying there like you would a 2yo and tell him you'll come back when he is ready to tidy up.

Sounds like you handled it fine. Here's a consequence of you don't do what's been asked. Then walk away.

Not hungry, they'd just finished dinner. He's much cheerier now having dodged the cleaning of the bedroom for today Hmm it's not awful lego needs picking up, clothes in basket and it'd be done. I'm pretty sure he spent longer complaining about having to do it than it would take Confused
