If DH and I died without a will would our adult DDs inherit our house/money/business?

We’ve been away which got me pondering. DDs early 20s, one at home, one at uni. We’ve never got round to making a will, partly as we couldn’t agree on guardians when the DDs were under 18.
We will sort this out soon but what would happen in this scenario? Obv it would be more complicated to sort out but legally it would be theirs as next of kin? My brother wouldn’t have a claim for instance?

It would all go to your children

I know from recent experience

probably but the only way to be sure is to make a will so do that asap.

Your children will inherit everything.

Although your children would inherit everything, there are many possibilities that could make it difficult for them such as other members of your family making a claim (remember money brings out the best and sadly worst in people including blood relatives) and it would probably delay the probate. So I would just make a couple's Will, it should not be overly costly if all you are trying to do is ensure your children get everything. Remember they may be subject to Inheritance tax which you'll need to get advice on.

It would go to the surviving spouse first and if you both died to any children.
It would make it much harder for those left behind without a will. It need not be very expensive, just get it done asap.

If only 1 of you dies (more likely than both) what happens depends on the size of your estate.
It also is dependent on where in Britain you live (Scotland, NI or England&Wales).

Your children will inherit, however as you would have died intestate the legal work is more involved and therefore costly, meaning your estate is reduced.

Just sort out your will. It's really simple and not expensive. They additional stress to your loved ones to manage afterwards might not be.

My mum died without making a will.
It was a nightmare on top of a very draining emotional time.
We couldn’t touch her bank accounts, couldn’t pay in money that came from some work, insurance wouldn’t pay out til we had confirmation ( Scottish probate), couldn’t sell her place, caravan, car…
Meanwhile there were still bills to pay, gas, electric, ground rent to caravan site, house insurance became complicated, we had to put the funeral on credit card.
We also had to take out a bond of Caution, a sort of insurance required in iScotland , it cost more than Mum seeing a solicitor and making a will
It was all so stressful when I was mourning

Eventually I was named as executrix and was able to wind up estate. It took about a year all told, my sister and I split the estate following the rules of intestate in Scotland. Luckily we got on well and she agreed with everything, if we hadnt it would have been hell.
As it was we had various people telling us what they thought should and shouldn’t be done
After that I made sure to tell everyone to make a will
