We are starting half term week with a short trip to Oxford - with DC 8 and 10.

We won't struggle to fill the time obviously but would love any locals recommendations of what we might most enjoy doing as a family .

Open to all suggestions

Thirsty Meeples, the board game cafe, is ace!

We went to the castle prison museum. That was quite good.

We also went to the cinema! There is a small chain one there (Curzon) there and it was really nice - delivered food to your seat I think. It was at the top of a shopping centre with a load of nice looking restaurants .

There is also a phone walking tour treasure hunt. You download it to your phone and it gives you directions and then clues to look for. You don't win anything as such bit it makes sightseeing a bit more interesting for children - we walked places we wouldn't have by ourselves.

So much to do. I'd suggest just walking around and absorbing the atmosphere. The Radclifffe Camera, the St Mary's Tower for a view (you may be lucky and hear a concert rehearsal in the church). G&D's ice-cream cafe (a favourite with the students). The Pitt Rivers museum for curios. The Ashmolean. The Botanical Gardens. Christchurch Meadows. A college visit, perhaps Christchurch or one of the richer colleges. There's a good ghost walking tour.

George and Davis Ice Cream parlour. The original on Little clarendon Street is the best!
Christ Church had some of Harry Potter filmed there if they're interested in that.
Natural History Museum is okay for that age.
Oxfam Book shop for second hand books or Blackwells for new ones.
The Parks are quite nice if it's nice weather.

Some lovely ideas here - especially visiting Pitt Rivers.
Take them out on a punt if the weather is fine.
Look at some colleges linked to books - you can visit Exeter College (where His Dark Materials opens) for free, or Magdalen for Alice in Wonderland territory, or do a Harry Potter walking tour.
Go up the Sheldonian to the lovely cupola on the top with great views. (Also great views from the rooftop restaurant floor of the Westgate shopping centre).
Take them to the Medieval Pret a Manager for a hot chocolate - you have to duck under the wooden beams if you go upstairs.
Spend time in Blackwells if they like books.

You need to book ahead at thirsty meeples. Museum of the history of science is fab. Oumnh is also good. Pitt Rivers was a bit odd last time I went: they’ve (rightly, I think) removed human remains from their collection but other changes weren’t so good. George and Danver’s opposite Christ Church is a good ice cream place. Evensong at the cathedral is lovely too (it’ll be a different choir singing as the choristers will be on half term too).
