My GP surgery has opened it's doors!

Was so surprised! Had gone along for a face to face appointment and was just about to press the bell when I saw a notice saying 'door is open'! It cheered me up, not quite sure why. Maybe because it seemed like things were slowly returning to normal.

Misuse of apostrophe in title! I'm clearly still over excited...

Lovely. I wish ours would do this, fingers crossed for face to face soon.

FourChimneys · 04/02/2022 13:38

Ours has been open throughout. With an automatic door installed so no touching the handle as we had to do before.

The surgery frequently gets praise on the local Facebook group, they have been fantastic.

Ours is too, booked my regular blood test, receptionist said you can wait in the waiting room. Been a patient for a year, never seen the waiting room.

SparklingLime · 04/02/2022 13:43

Ours has had doors and waiting room open for over a year, possibly throughout.

SparklingLime · 04/02/2022 13:46

Glad yours opening has perked you up!

BeKind2022 · 04/02/2022 13:56

I live in Europe
Ours only closed for 5 weeks in March/April 2020 as GP was drafted in to work in a hospital.
Have struggled to see why British GPs needed extra protection all these months to be honest.

Ours has been open months now

Shock

We've been open since late November. It's been great. A combination of not having to spend ages on the phone then deciding you need to see the person anyway so 2 appts not 1. So there's more free appts. We were all in tears on our duty doctor days before as it was so busy and quite frankly unsafe!

I think if we hadn't changed several of us would have been off with breakdowns as it was unrelenting. We were having to help the duty doctor out so couldn't get any if our other work done and the prescriptions and mail were piling up. I love seeing all my patients face to face. I do offer phonecalls for some reviews where appropriate now.

ComDummings · 04/02/2022 14:40

Ours is still like Fort bloody Knox

DaffodilDandilion · 04/02/2022 14:42

Ours reopened ages ago, also with new, fancy automatic doors so no one needs to touch them.

Player456 · 04/02/2022 15:59

Ours will only see if you in an emergency situation.

Not great as I haven't had my lithium blood test for over a year (should be every 3 months), and my knee has been killing and swollen since August, it's now worse, can't bear weight and swelling has gone up the thigh...still told tophone back in a couple of weeks!

emmathedilemma · 04/02/2022 16:04

Mine has been open for months thank goodness, the intercom system was barely fit for use. I logged an econsult first thing Monday morning, got a phone call from them at 3pm and he booked me in for a face to face appointment on Tuesday morning. The waiting room still looks like a very sad game of musical chairs though!

niceupthedanceagain · 04/02/2022 16:07

I work in a surgery and we had a patients' coffee morning there this week

jytdtysrht · 04/02/2022 16:12

I went in the vets today for the first time in 2 years!

mummyh2016 · 04/02/2022 16:21

I called for an appointment for DS for a suspected eye infection expecting the receptionist to ask me to email pictures over and book a telephone appointment. I was actually asked if I wanted face to face! The GP was wearing scrubs though in the appointment which I thought was ridiculous, he looked like he was going into an operating theatre Confused

SequinnedShawl · 04/02/2022 16:35

Our surgery reopened this week. Smile

DrFoxtrot · 04/02/2022 16:35

Our front door has never been shut even during the first lockdown and we didn't do temperature checks or ask patients to wait outside. We figured people would be sensible during lockdown and only come into reception if needed at the time.

Yourinmyspot · 04/02/2022 16:56

I don’t think ours ever locked the doors. You weren’t allowed to go into make appointments only if you had one, though there was nobody on the door checking.

They set ask my GP up which worked really well, as long as you are on there before 10am. I’ve been going twice weekly since June to see the nurse to have my hands bandaged and never had any issues with them, they have been great and a good surgery.

DH works for the ambulance service and he says some surgeries are far better than others. We are lucky to have one of the good ones.

Nutrigrainygoodness · 04/02/2022 17:00

Ours has been seeing people throughout.
Dd had an ear infection in the first lockdown before schools reopened, I phoned up after lunch when she started complaining- she was physically seen hours later.
DW has to have 3 monthly bloods taken and injections, they were never stopped.
Dw said the waiting room has been open for a few months now too.

The worst was dentists. And mine (private) still has its doors locked! I've only been to my GP once since covid started, for a smear test, and the doors were open then (November 2021).
