2 year old has woken up with her eye like this? Never happened before, not what sure it could be?
Will be ringing doctors when it's open just wondering if anybody has an idea what it could be?
Thankyou!

Some sort of allergic reaction? Or an insect bite? Do you have pets that might have got fleas? Or maybe she just scratched it herself?

Definitely see if a doctor can look at it though.

Have you got some piriton in ?
Is there any discharge ?

My DD had similar when she was little. GP prescribed AB cream with strict instructions to go to an eye A&E if it got worse. Definitely get an urgent GP appointment.

Morning OP, that needs to be seen today. There is a ring of redness in the upper lid as well. It needs some oral antibiotics to stop it spreading. It's most likely to be a condition called periorbital cellulitis.

PantsandBoots · 04/02/2022 08:15

Please monitor this really closely and if looks to be getting worse, please go to A&E immediately.

My son had something similar and it escalated quickly and ended up in hospital.

PantsandBoots · 04/02/2022 08:17

Agree that it might be periorbital cellulitis.

Will ring doctors when it opens, thankyou all for your help x

Was also going to suggest the start of peri orbital cellulitis which, if caught early and started on antibiotics quickly, can easily resolve but can also escalate quickly and require iv antibiotics. If her eye gets more swollen or she can’t open it because of the swelling - or if the redness spreads away from her eye - please don’t hesitate to take her to A&E to get it dealt with quickly.

How is your LO today?

Donut93 · 05/02/2022 12:37

She's been prescribed some antibiotic eye ointment which hopefully will help, it calmed down a bit yesterday afternoon but when she woke up this morning it had flared up again, but she's not irritated by it at all and she's fine in herself but will keep a close eye on it x

Please don't leave it if its flared up again, if it is cellulitis she will need immediate treatment, it can cause damage.
I wouldn't normally be so dramatic, but eyes can't be messed with.

MissMinutes24 · 05/02/2022 13:12

Second all the urgent messages - I would go to children's a&e if you can

I was going to say what PP have said, that looks like periorbital cellulitis. This can be extremely serious if not treated promptly. Did the GP do a face-to-face appt for your DD? I'd take her to A&E honestly, she might need IV antibiotics. For context, my DH is a Physician Associate who used to work in paediatric A&E, and our DD had periorbital cellulitis when she was 2, it led to an A&E visit and an overnight stay in hospital for IV antibiotics.
