Do your cats come for walks with you, whether or not you want them to ?

Our latter-day cat did. My sister swears he thought he was a dog. We used to walk our three Cocker spaniels at about the same time every evening and, more often than not, puss would insist on joining us. He was hopeless at staying with us, being either a few yards ahead or several yards behind most of the time. Occasionally he would lose us (being a cat, he would have said we lost him) and we'd have to find him. Without fail, when we were just a minute or two from getting home again, he'd streak ahead to be on the back door before us, miaowing triumphantly in the process (provided we hadn't 'lost' him).

Mine comes to meet me at the end of the road if I pop to the corner shop. He likes to know what I've been buying for him. He's a big fan of crisps.

we have a cat like this, although hes getting on now. When my DC were younger he'd go to the park with them, even climbing up the steps of the slide and sliding down. A few years later when DH had hip replacement operation he would accompany DH on his daily rehab walk, could be a PITA at times as he would 'argue' with other cats and sometimes walk in the road. He's a character!

My friend had a cat that waited for her on the fence while she went to the newsagents to get the papers for her round.
She walked back and Fred (cat) walked the whole round with her then had himself a well deserved nap while she went to school

We used to live on a lovely private estate and my two cats would come out for a walk with us every single day. They get really excited when they see us putting shoes on and wait by the front door. Now we live on a normal residential road, so we don't do our daily walks with them anymore but they still walk us to the shop or bus stop and wait outside for us.

The boy cat meows loudly if he loses sight of us, and the girl greets us outside the shop by twitching her tail and throwing herself at our feet. I love it!

Yes ours does every time. She is fine until we get to a certain point ( the limit of her territory maybe?) and then gets really agitated but won’t stop following us. One of us often has to pick her up and take her home or back to a point she recognises - her heart is pounding! Once we’ve done this she waits in the hedge or on a wall and then bursts out triumphantly when we come back. Equally sweet and annoying!

My cat does the same!!!

I don’t have cats but my neighbours cat does this, they follow her everywhere. I took my kids swimming one day and found it sitting outside the swimming pool, my neighbour had taken her granddaughter to her swimming lesson, the cat followed and was waiting for her to come out again so they could go home.

One of our cats does this too, he follows us down the lane and sits and shouts at us when we've gone too far. Pretty sure it must be the edge of his territory because he used to follow us all the way down onto another lane but now another cat has moved in on our lane he stops before we get to that house.

My friend's cat accompanies her and her boys to the playground at the top of their street, then immediately yowls to be carried back home Grin

Branleuse · 04/02/2022 08:08

I chase them home if they try and follow me as cats lose their bearings then theyre at risk

PiggyPlumPie · 04/02/2022 08:13

Yes, tries to come for a run with me - I have to bring him back.

Also came to the shop with me - I nipped in really quickly and came out to find him following another family in completely the opposite direction. Stooped kitty!

MisAnn · 04/02/2022 08:36

Yes. Mine used to walk halfway to school with me and ds when he was younger. Doesn't venture out in the winter but often walks round to the corner shop with me in the summer months and waits outside then walks back with me!

My dearly missed DC was a pest for trying to come on walks with us. Would just keep on going and often get lost, miaowing for hours until we had to find her and carry her home. We used to have to take her back home, shut the door and try and run off quickly. It always added an extra element of stress to the school run but oh how I miss her now! I'd do anything to have her back following me round. People used to point and smile at the sight of her trotting along with us.
