What did you look forward to?

I covered a class for RE last week and our over arching thread is 'life is a journey'

One of the questions I posed for this particular lesson was 'What are you looking forward to when you're a grown up.'

Most of the class said getting married, having children etc. which are perfectly fine but I would like to broaden their horizons so would like some more ideas of aspiration.

So I what do you enjoy about being an adult or what were you looking forward to?

My mum was very into healthy food so when I went to uni I was very much looking forward to choosing my own dinners and eating my weight in sweets. Luckily I was naturally very slim at that age or I’d have ended up obese.

Also my dad had a terrible fear of flying so all of our holidays were done by train or car. I couldn’t wait to grow up and choose my own exotic holidays.

Where was your first exotic holiday if you don't mind me asking?

I was looking forward to backpacking around the world.

I couldn't wait to be able to drive! Bought my first car at 16 (an old banger but I loved it). Took my first lesson on my 17th birthday and passed my test before I turned 18. The freedom driving gives people is great. I've been on so many spontaneous road trips over the years.

Being able to travel and live in other countries.

I first left home to go and work overseas at 17, and have lived and worked in five countries on three continents over my lifetime (so far).

@Inatightsqueeze Marrakech. Not majorly exotic in hindsight but very exciting when you’ve only been as far as Italy before.

I also agree with driving. I grew up in a village with only 1 bus an hour which was also very expensive. Driving gave me so much freedom and a whole new lease of life.

Freedom from parents telling me what to do! Grin
