Lease a car or take out a car subscription?

Anyone heard of taking out a subscription to a car rather than leasing? Benefits to doing so? I want as little hassle as possible. Do you do it/would do it?

Is it a month by month subscription?

Such as drover?

Do you mean something like zip car? I’d worry about the availability of a car when and where I need it, also needing to park it back in a specific space.

Or do you mean just a contract lease of a specific car (straight lease not PCP or HP)

I’m just looking at Cazoo
I’m not convinced yet but it might be a good way to find out if an electric car works for us before buying one

I know people who get a subscription from Land Rover and can change whenever they want but it's a lot of bloody money.

I've seen people work with drover and I've used one which was a 6 or 12 month short term lease but not essentially a subscription.

A lot of people are offering it now and while it seems hassle free, it's effectively all the hassle of handing back your lease car (and waiting for a damage bill) even more often and at a much higher price.

It was cazoo I was looking at. Basically you buy a three year subscription and insurance etc is included. Looked a similar monthly fee to leasing but the initial outlay was a lot less.

What's the initial outlay you are looking at for leasing vs subscription? Leasing initial rental shouldn't be more than 3/6 x monthly payment but as it's just spread across the term, with good credit you should be able to do 24/36 equal payments.

@Hoppinggreen check out On.to - I subscribed for a month for an electric car to see if it worked for us, they deliver it to your house, and all charging and insurance is included in the price. The first one I rented was great but a tiny bit too small when my kids and all their stuff was piled in it on the weekend, so I swapped out for a Hyundai Kona and haven't looked back.

I was very dubious as to whether it could work for us as we don't have anywhere to charge at home so the one month trial was perfect. I discovered I drive fewer miles than I thought, plus the car had a bigger range than I thought, so I only have to charge once a week really - I just go to one of the public chargers near me (Shell station, BP etc), buy a coffee and read the paper on a Sunday morning while it charges.
