Work wants to add my personal mobile to email signature?

I started a new job recently and they have asked me to do this. I have been provided with a new laptop but not a business mobile.

They are allowing me to work hybrid and so Im expected to be available for calls as I would be at a desk. But no one has really needed to call so far as they tend to be on zoom.

At my previous job I would give out my number to clients and they would call when it is necessary. My previous email sig had the company number. But the thought of every other person I email having my number isn't great. Wwyd?

Why won't they give you a work phone?

purplesequins · 02/02/2022 14:17

Even if they did have a switch - how is reception meant to transfer calls to the OP when she's working at home?

there are communication apps for that.
I don't have a desk phone for work. all calls, internal or external, go via an app.

Hell no! Unless they're going to pay a proportion of your phone bill. I've had one job where we used our own phones and they laid a set amount each month to contribute to our broadband and mobile phone. Everywhere else has provided a work phone, they aren't massively expensive on a business plan and if it's so essential to be reachable it's a relatively simple solution.

I'd either ask for a work phone or anyone wanting to reach you can call on zoom/teams, drop an IM or email.

Thanks everyone. I've set my boundary so I'll see what they come back with.

@amusedbush

Wow, none of them ever? Ive never worked anywhere like this

mirabellemadrigal · 02/02/2022 22:03

@sillysmiles

Same as they would in the office 🙄

Wow, very strange request. Interested to see how they react.

If they absolutely refuse I would buy a PAYG sim and use that number to receive work calls, and hide your outgoing number when making work calls from your regular mobile.

Kshhuxnxk · 02/02/2022 22:17

That would be a no for me. Someone suggested you buy a cheap payg and divert - be aware you would then be responsible for the cost of calls diverting.

God no! I have a digital phone installed on my laptop by IT with a direct number, not a mobile but that’s sufficient.
