If you have a job that works really well around your family, what is it?

I'm due back from maternity leave in the summer so just figuring out my options.

I'll be looking for something around 15-20 hours per week.

For inspiration, if you have a part time job that works really well for your family what is it?

Actuary, it has become a much much more family friendly career in recent years, I do 28 hours a week. If you’re good at maths and interpreting data its a good career, you can now qualify via an apprenticeship rather than a degree and then finding a training post.

Similar to previous poster, I'm a teach which idnt family friendly at all for most of the year- but I'm off for school holidays so I think it balances out. My OH works in IT flexitime and can collect and drop kids off most days so we only use a little wrap around care. But it's not always been like that- before covid dc were in breakfast club and after school club 4 days a week. Before that we had a childminder. It's always a juggle.
I like the holidays off with the dc so for us this works.

It's called after school club.

These "jobs in the council" do people just apply for entry level (minimum wage) jobs and work up? Or are they basic admin jobs? Presumably not library workers/early help /parent workers etc as all those are "in person."

I'm a Teaching Assistant
When my children were younger I stayed at home
When I began as a TA i took the to school ....went to work and left in time to collect them.
Now they are adults I've found my self still in this job which I took to accommodate the children as my husband was self employed and does a job with uncertain days times etc but I just kept at it ...

I'm a teaching assistant, so perfect hours with school age children, plus holidays off, but only just above minimum wage.

Unfortunately, I need to start earning more money as the cost of living has increased so much and DH's job is no longer secure.

The children are great and I love the job, but it is under valued. I work as a 1:1.

Domiciliary care. I work the bed shifts which means I am home all day for all school related stuff and I’m home during all the school holidays.

Care isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and some will say it’s grim and look down their noses at you, but it works perfectly fine for my family.

Administrator in a university, part term term time only but overtime available most of the time if I want it. I get 4 months off over the summer plus 3 weeks each at Christmas and Easter. We need beforeschool childcare 3 days a week and then some childcare at Nov and Feb half terms but otherwise I can cover it.
