Please hit me with your gift ideas I am so stumped. Happy to spend up to about £50. I thought about something personalised but what...

Is he the first child in the family or does he have older siblings and thus lots of hand-me-down toys and things he'll be getting as he grows up anyway? Have you asked them if there's anything in particular they want family to get, to avoid multiples of 'big items'? With personalisation - if they do have other children in the future, while nice, things personalised with names on can make handing stuff on more difficult.

I asked my sister and suggested a couple of things I'd thought of. Ended up getting a wheelybug which has been popular, and our dad put money towards one of those big pushing ride on trike things.

Best gift for my son at 1 was money into his savings account- that way throughout the year I could get new clothes/ toys he showed interest in and shoes. Stuff he needed and helped me out rather than having to spend household budget on clothes

He has an older brother and they're not having any more kids

Ah with seconds it can be more of a challenge thinking of something, since there are likely already a lot of toys ready for him to grow into using! Personalisation may be more relevant there, as it can be about finding something nice for him to have new, rather than using what his brother has/had.

As a random thought: what about one of those 'keepsake bears' made from favourite babygros?

I've given all my nieces and nephews money boxes at that age, but agree that it's a good idea to discuss this with their parents.

If they really don't need anything and have lots of clothes and toys already, money in their savings account might be more appreciated. If you do this instead of just buy things that they don't really need, it could grow into a tidy sum that could pay towards driving lessons or similar when they're older.

If you want to do personalised I like the books that have their names in. Its something they can enjoy for years.

Could you put the money towards a season ticket or something like that for him? We were swamped with toys and books for DS’s first birthday, but having money to put towards a season ticket for a local attraction made a huge difference to us in the summer.
