I can't remember how one goes about organising and booking a holiday

Does anyone else find themselves in this situation? DH and I want to go on holiday with DS (17) and DD(15) in August, but we're not the biggest fans of the heat, beach and pool. Problem with going independent, say a villa somewhere nice in France or Spain, is having to go to the supermarket, shop, blah blah blah. Can't be arsed. I am wondering if anyone's aware of any holidays we could book that would appeal to a family with older teens where there's activities to get involved in (learning to surf would be good, kayak, etc). I am even thinking a US road trip. Would that be crazy in August? Ideas please!!

We've booked 2 weeks all inclusive in Mexico with Tui. I usually build our own packages but just wanted the hassle removed this time. I can't wait.

I'm noticing a lot of people, more than previously, seem to be looking to outsource it to other people on here. I'm just doing a couple of packages this year, plane, transfers and accommodation, for security, and general can't be arsedness.

I’ve booked my next two holidays all myself.

  1. Easyjet flights to Hurghada, Egypt. 6 night AI stay. Golf and wind surfing lessons. Then fly to Cairo for 3 nights to do 3.5 days touring. Fly back to Hurghada for 9 more nights AI for some scuba diving.
  1. Easyjet flight to Athens. 4 nights Athens. Do some touring. Overnight ferry to Rhodes. 14 night stay in Kalithea. Then 4 nights in Lindos. Ryanair flight home.

It’s fun to plan things myself. Just make sure I have travel insurance in situ before I start.

How about the Alps for an activity holiday? Gorgeous scenery, lovely weather but lots of things to do? Lots of half board options include mid afternoon cake, that might have been a deciding factor for me…

I work sometimes in a office where we book package holidays (small company).

lots and lots of people ring up and we walk them through the whole thing - its still a package because we are ABTA covered - but it is tailored!

Don' need to tell you which company because I don't think it's what you're looking for ( and not allowed on MN), but it's not much different price-wise to book a package that includes hotel or villa, car, flights etc - any ABTA affiliated company should be able to sort whatever you want.

Post covid lots are moveable and can be amended easily. Most companies offer Covid protection in the case of borders closing due to Covid. You should get holiday insurance before booking so that you are covered should any of you test positive. If you do that you're covered. Let someone else walk you through it!

How about a lake or river holiday, somewhere like Dordogne?

emmathedilemma · 01/02/2022 20:06

Neilsons beach club - watersports and activities included to do as and when you please, all inclusive or most meals included, flights, transport and rooms all planned.

Usually someone comes on suggesting a cruise. I'm quite disappointed. Grin

If people don't know where to start, then follow @youllneedthisfish's advice and get someone, a travel agent, to walk you through it. Browse sites that offer activity holidays etc online and give them a call. It'll work out better than vague, not relevant to you advice here. Yes, did you like X, how was that place, here is good for that, but not much beyond that.
