What activities does your reception age child do?

At the moment, I take my DS swimming once a fortnight (he can't swim yet - we're on the waiting list for lessons) and he does a football club. I've been wondering lately whether I should encourage him to try out a few more things (martial arts, parkrun etc.) so was just wondering what other people's 4/5 year olds do?

DS just did Beavers (younger version of Cubs/Scouts) and sometimes did a term or two of school run clubs.
But I don't think reception age necessarily need to do anything at all. As they get older they'll find things they're interested in.

Football club is plenty for a 4/5 year old, on top of school and swimming every other week.

However, any not take him swimming every week, if you think he needs to "do more".

Why not take*

Mine was in reception last year and did afterschool club 3 days a week (no sports as everything kept getting cancelled due to Covid).

DD1 has just started Y1 and only does a weekly swimming club, her school normally has after school activity clubs but they haven’t restarted yet because of COVID.

Mine does swimming lessons -30mins once a wk. She wants to do gymnastics but I’m conscious not to overfill her week, I want to ensure she focuses on school (august born baby), getting used to that schedule

Swimming lessons every week and ballet and street dance classes. Which is a nice balance I think. She wants to start rainbows soon, like her sister, so I suppose that will happen after Easter or in September. My older dd does an activity almost every night, which is a lot to manage! Especially with three dc!

Hi thank you! So it sounds like swimming and football are plenty for now. He's not doing proper lessons yet so it sounds like we should probably wait until he gets a spot and see how those go before signing up for anything else.

There is a junior parkrun near us we could try on Sundays - does anyone else do this with similar age children?
