Transfer from Gatwick to Heathrow

I'm starting to feel a bit paranoid about connecting from Gatwick to Heathrow. Plane lands in Gatwick at 945, that gives me 30mins to get to the National Express stop to take the bus to Heathrow, if I miss that one I need to wait an hour. My international flight is at 215, that should be enough time, but what if there isn't? Shall I take an Uber/taxi instead?

From Exeter on a Saturday I'd have to change 3 times, too many things could go wrong there. Why is the SW so terribly connected?

I think it should be ok OP although I would probably go for taxi from G to H, as the M25 might be a ball ache for the 2nd bus if you miss the first.

Needdoughnuts · 31/01/2022 15:32

@Onlyrainbows where are you looking at 3 changes? Exeter SD to Paddington is straight through on a Saturday, usually under 3 hours

Onlyrainbows · 31/01/2022 15:35

I was looking on the trianline but I think the Heathrow bit skewed the results. I'd have to take the 725. I'm certain my husband will have an issue with having the baby in the car on the way back from Exeter, in that sense I'd rather take the sleeper

You can get a SWR train from Exeter St Davids to Feltham (the station for LHR) with just one change at Clapham Junction. It takes just over 3 hours on a Saturday evening.
CraftyGin · 31/01/2022 16:52

I think you should get your DH to be a bit more flexible, tbh.

EileenGC · 31/01/2022 16:55

At risk of sounding very MN-etty… you don’t have a train problem, you have a DH problem.

Unless there’s a medical reason why your child can’t be in the car from home to Exeter and back, then I don’t see what your husband’s issue is?

I would have an issue with my spouse taking a sleeper train unnecessarily when I there are ways to make the trip easier for them. It does involve, however, behaving like an adult, taking responsibility and parenting one’s own children.

Onlyrainbows · 31/01/2022 17:04

I already feel bad with my DH because he has to move his hours around to fit this trip. I'm sure I'd so the same for him, but he's never been a "single dad" for a whole week. And he's going to collect me from Heathrow because there's actually no way for me to get back!

Are there no coaches from/to partway , like Bristol, which you could connect with?

CloudPop · 31/01/2022 17:49

Why is this her husband's problem ?! Her employer needs to make proper travel arrangements. It's a work trip, they need to make it achievable

Onlyrainbows · 31/01/2022 18:04

Bristol is still a good 3 hours away from where I live...

But nearer than him driving the LHR.

CraftyGin · 31/01/2022 18:09

@LIZS

But nearer than him driving the LHR.
The petrol for a return trip to LHR must be over £100.

Cheaper to get a Premier Inn then train/coach.

LIZS · 31/01/2022 18:12

And it costs £5 just to drop pff/pick up at LHR.

CraftyGin · 31/01/2022 18:14

Another idea is the SWR train from Exeter St Davids to Woking -

CraftyGin · 31/01/2022 18:16

@LIZS

And it costs £5 just to drop pff/pick up at LHR.
And DH would be driving for over 10 hours in one day (with the kids).
Onlyrainbows · 31/01/2022 18:16

I'd rather take the sleeper train that some combination of my DH driving me somewhere, them me staying in a hotel, to then get to Heathrow, all of that sounds beyond convoluted to me, and not something I'd prefer over the sleeper train.
