Toddler has eaten too much sugar

DD (2.5) got into a box of chocolate I’d been given - totally my fault I was hanging some washing on the airer in the next room while she watched tv, and the chocolate was up on the bookshelf. She generally doesn’t take things off shelves so I didn’t even think (and I hadn’t eaten any of the chocolate so wouldn’t think she’d even know it was food really, we don’t eat much chocolate generally).
Anyway, she has eaten so much. Far far more sugar than I would ever give her, and far more than I’d eat in one go.
What can I expect now - I’m anticipating fairly copious vomiting pretty soon? Is that a given? If she’s ok in a couple of hours, will she probably keep it all down?

I know no one can say, and I’m just overthinking really, but I don’t really deal that well with vomit and am still suffering with some pregnancy nausea/sickness so could really do without toddler vomit setting me off as well. She had a vomiting bug earlier in my pregnancy, and a day of morning sickness plus vomiting toddler was miserable.

She'll be fine.
If you are really worried about her vomiting I'd avoid the milk, cheese recommendations though.
A light supper of something like chicken rice and some veg.

DS once managed half a packnof contraceptives. He was fine. The GP laughed.

@Baystard

Ouch! I'd be mainly concerned about the come-down when it wears off, cue grumpy weepy hungover toddler!
This will definitely be a far bigger problem for you than vomit, it's highly likely she won't vomit. How many chocolates did she actually eat? Everyone's 'too much' is different
betwixtlives · 30/01/2022 16:29

Sugar doesn’t induce vomiting Hmm

Your toddler is awesome. I wish I'd stolen chocs and eaten myself silly this afternoon!

Flea456 · 30/01/2022 16:32

@Rainbowcake88

She's not a dog it won't kill her 🤣
Haha, exactly what I was about to say 🤣
Cantleave · 30/01/2022 16:32

@inheritancetrack

She'll be fine. Maybe some loose poo, but fine.
More likely to be a bit constipated. Drinking fluids (juice, not milk) will help for this.
Yuckypretty · 30/01/2022 16:33

Are you sure she's not stuffed them under the cushions or put them under/behind the sofa? Or in a toy box?

DappledThings · 30/01/2022 16:35

The only time I've ever known a child vomit after a load of chocolate was when my younger cousins got into the car too soon after finishing the trip to Cadbury World. If they hadn't added motion to the chocolate it would have been fine. No reason to expect vomit now.

georgarina · 30/01/2022 16:39

She'll be fine, give her water to dilute her blood sugar so she doesn't get too hyper

minniep · 30/01/2022 16:40

She will be fine. Surely most toddlers do something similar at some stage .

godmum56 · 30/01/2022 16:47

folks there is zero evidence for the hyper myth

FKATondelayo · 30/01/2022 16:50

She'll be fine. I'd be more worried about her teeth from the toffee/caramel. Give them a proper clean and relax.

Whatsonmymindgrapes · 30/01/2022 16:59

Nothing will happen.

PinkPiranha11 · 30/01/2022 17:05

It’s chocolate, not arsenic 🤣. She’ll be fine.

liveforsummer · 30/01/2022 17:10

I've never on my life known a child eat so much chocolate (or anything else) that it's made them sick. They'd feel sick and stop long before that happened. I've also never witnessed hyperactivity after chocolate. It's not fill of E numbers like some sweets. I'm sure she'll be fine.

campion · 30/01/2022 17:15

@20week

At Christmas my 2 year old took hers and her siblings chocolate and stuffed the lot, shoving the wrappers under the bed to hide any evidence. You honestly don't need to do anything.
Ha! You've got one canny 2 year old there Grin She'll go far!
Username3092997 · 30/01/2022 17:15

She'll be fine. even if she feels a little queasy, she'll be fine. Worse things happen!

Maybe take out for some exercise to burn off any excess energy or sugar high 😅

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 30/01/2022 17:17

She’ll be fine. Kids can generally eat a surprisingly large amount of chocolate with no ill effects.

She'll be fine :-D

My DD snuck down early on Easter Monday and ate all the family Easter eggs when she was three.

She was sick within 30 minutes of eating the lot and kept vomiting small amounts for about an hour. Then she was perfectly fine. I gave her plain food for a couple of days just in case but there were no after effects at all, except she never forgot it or ate too much chocolate ever again.
She had eaten 5 button eggs without the buttons, 5 chocolate bar type eggs (kit kat or similar) without the bars, a bite or two out of each 5 chocolate rabbits and a few mini eggs.
In short, vast amount of chocolate caused vomiting ( not half a box of chicks) and it was over quickly.
You'd know by now if your DD was going to be sick.

LazyYogi · 30/01/2022 17:24

As above, expect a grumpy weepy kid when the sugar crash comes.

MerryMarigold · 30/01/2022 17:31

This thread is so funny...

I'd be livid if my toddler ate my precious, handmade chocolates! How very dare she - she'd have been happy with Cadbury's I'm sure.

Seriously though, OP, the kids who seem to binge on sweets/ choc/ junk are those who are very much denied it (as opposed to families who are fairly relaxed about it). I used to find it very funny at birthdays when my friend's kids (who were not allowed sweets) went crazy and basically stood next to any food bowls gorging on crisps and sweets, whereas my kids were having fun with the party activities and didn't really notice the food as it is not 'forbidden fruit' in our house.

I agree too.

Howareyouflower · 30/01/2022 17:33

My daughter came into my room early one morning, covered in chocolate. and denying she'd eaten the family sized Hershey bar my friend had brought back from the USA. There wasn't a scrap left. She was fine (after a bath and hairwash!!!!)
