Looking for inspiration here, also curious to hear other people’s various holiday experiences with kids. What’s the best family holiday you’ve done, and what made it good?

I’ve got two kids, aged 7 & 3.5 and we’d be a group of four altogether; me, my DH & the kiddies.

If you want, please also feel free to share your worst holiday experiences. Then I’ll know what/where to avoid & why!!!!

Best was going to Crete. DH’s work friend is from Crete originally and has a house there that he rents out. It has a pool and really comfy beds and good AC.

Worst was Cornwall. The flat we rented was really shitty and it rained all week. I am not usually fussed about rain on a UK holiday but everything just felt really over priced and crowded.

Duinrell campsite in Holland.
We have been many times over the years and my kids would all love to go again this year (they are 20, 14 and 11 now)

Best was last year camping in Lands End youth hostel, loads of kids and other nice families. Really small camp space so no other noise and our pitch directly overlooked the ocean, obviously it was lands end so nothing but sea for miles.
Days out travelling to St Ives, Sennan, Mousehole, Marizion.
First trip I had done with kids on my own and it was so joyous and hedonistic in a way. No grumpy man to please, or in laws or parents to reassure. We just did what we liked.
The weather was 10/10 (may half term) and I think this made it to be honest. Also the freedom from a lot of restrictions which was such a welcome relief.

Best was a family resort in Puglia. Pre-kids, I didn’t like that sort of thing but post-kids it was perfect! There was a kids’ club, the food was amazing, we all had a lot of fun.

Worst was an expensive hotel stay in Devon. The room was beautiful, but the vibe was stuffy and the food was very rich and uninspiring and I felt like I had to whisper in the restaurant.

Villa in France was the best. Worst was Eurocamp in Britanny.

When our 2 were that age we went to Portinax northern Ibiza and it was lovely.

Not to busy, the bars and beaches were lovely and clean. Also the weather in August was just right. It was warm / not too hot during the day and on an evening was cool so you could actually sleep

Best holiday was a campsite in Brittany. 5 min walk to beautiful but uncrowded beaches, 10 min drive to a town, great water park and things to do on the campsite. The caravan/mobile home was very basic (and I'd book with a different company if we went again) but we barely spent any time in it and the weather was great.

Worst: AI in Tunisia. We went with extended family and almost everyone was ill. DD had the worst noro she's ever had. Spent hours in the room watching dubbed cartoons with the DC while they puked or pooped!

Best - Serfaus in Austrian Alps.
Mostly free cable cars. Amazing playgrounds/fun parks at the top of the mountains with loads for kids- Mini zoo, streams with mini dams to play in, zip wires, trampolines, jumping pillows, donut rubber tyres on fake snow, a kids sand mine and tons more. Free water park at bottom of valley. Best of all was the mountain coaster - a self driving roller coaster carriage that goes all the way down the mountain

Worst - Ai in Tunisia @Exhausteddog My husband and I went to one of these our first trip abroad. I got the runs, he got a bad attack of gout. I don't even remember a TV in the room....it was miserable. Unfortunately, because others say it's lovely.

Best - a family trip to Hong Kong. To see the grandparents, family and all the sites. It was amazing. But unfortunately probably the only time we can afford to do it. We all still talk about it. Kids had a blast. I loved seeing where the inlaws came from and the family home, HK is just amazing as well.
