Bloody Sunday

I was looking for something on TV today about Bloody Sunday to watch with the DCs. Eldest knows about the events that day, youngest doesn’t - he was asking me questions this morning when I said today is the anniversary.

But I can’t find anything in the TV schedules. Thought we could watch the Bloody Sunday film (one with James Nesbit) but can’t find anywhere streaming that either.

Have I missed something? Anyone know of any TV station showing something today to mark the anniversary?

It's amazing that the 50th anniversary of the massacre of 14 innocent UK citizens on UK soil was not marked more widely by the media. Keir Starmer's statement that 'the horror of Bloody Sunday unfolded' is pretty shameful - guns don't 'unfold'! The amnesty from prosecution is also pretty appalling. Can you imagine this happening if people were shot on the streets of Manchester or London?

I couldn't find anything last night on Irish television either - absolutely shocking, but I suppose I shouldn't be surprised anymore.

It was a peaceful protest, shots were fired by the para's, the rest as they say is history.

A day too late...but I think it has traditionally got very little coverage in England. I was/am in Ireland on a short trip, and my DH picked up Sunday Times in Dublin Airport to read about the rugby. It's an Irish edition of the paper, but that seems to have good coverage.

A shameful shameful day for our country and armed forces and judiciary. People literally got away with mass murder. Note I say that as a person who believes NI should stay part of the union, and think that IRA murders should be hunted down and never allowed rest.

@nicecoffeecup I think your government will end up letting IRA and loyalist paramilitary suspects off in their efforts to legislate an amnesty for all the soldiers who murdered civilians in Ireland. It's shameful that no soldier or member of the security forces will ever have to face justice for what they did, and not just on Bloody Sunday.

Somatronic, the members of the IRA, other republican movements and Loyalist Paramilitaries were let off by the Good Friday agreement. 500 members of paramilitary members were released from prison, these are people who killed, maimed and destroyed their own communities and country in the name of freedom or to claim heritage to a country that they believed wanted them.

Security forces and the army colluded with these people, drove the narrative behind some of the attacks. Just shamelessly walked into communities and started shooting for no reason, the British Government will never hold them responsible.

And whilst most of Northern Ireland just wants to move on to a better and brighter future these rope of cover ups make it very difficult for a lot of people. There is so much you can brush under the carpet and so much you just can't
