Please tell me how to empty my bowel, I am in panicked agony

Had c section on Monday.

Had a small motion on Wednesday and nothing since.

I take lactulose twice a day and have been eating plenty of fruit and veg, and keeping hydrated in an attempt to stop this happening.

I am completely clogged up. I am in agony. It feels like I am literally trying to shit a brick.

I just tried 2 suppositories, one after the other and it didn't do anything.

Please help

@Badgerforbreakfast 😂😂 not just me then

You may actually be at the point where you need an enema. You can go to the GP but they are also available in pharmacies. It will sort the problem within minutes.

Oh just saw the update. Well done OP Grin

Also I was told that whilst you're numb they stick a anti poop pill up your bum so you don't poo whilst numb. Hence the struggle added after.

Not even sure how true that is 🤣

I had to get in the bath and pull it out in bits, pushing via the vaginal wall. I was on the cusp of going to a&e. It was worse than the birth. Sympathy!

amimollycoddling · 30/01/2022 12:10

Reading all these posts has me proper laughing, in a really demented way

I will never, ever forget this experience as long as I live.

I have stopped taking the meds and am only on paracetamol and Ibuprofen now. Luckily my pain turned a corner and although the scar is still painful, no way am I going to go through that constipation again!! Never known pain like it

This is categorically absolutely not true! It’s a diclofenac suppository. We want you to poo!

Glad you’ve managed to go OP!

I would suggest you take Movicol/Laxido, just a sachet a day for the next week or so even though you’ve stopped the codeine. You’re likely to still be backed up a bit and it’ll take a few days at least until things are back to normal. When your stomach muscles aren’t working it makes things so much worse.

amimollycoddling · 30/01/2022 13:02

I will continue with the laxido, prune juice, fruit, veg etc etc as I do suspect I have a bot of a "back log"

Also the suppositories are close by...

Flags out for you OP!!! So pleased for you - what a relief! Smile

I have never understood why they do not give small doses of laxatives before surgery, rather than dealing with the situation afterwards. Medics must have seen this happen so many times - all they have to do is think ahead a bit.

Last bit of surgery I had I insisted on having lactulose before and after as I knew from bitter experience what lay ahead.

Lancssss · 30/01/2022 16:59

When I was pregnant years ago and was constipated the GP said I couldn’t have Movicol in case it set off contractions.

@Lancssss

When I was pregnant years ago and was constipated the GP said I couldn’t have Movicol in case it set off contractions.
I don’t see how it would - it draws water into the bowel to soften what’s there.

It doesn’t work like a laxative. I drank four sachets of movicol a day on prescription from 6 weeks until birth to counteract the hideous constipation of the anti sickness medication I was on.

catinboots123 · 11/02/2022 18:19

This happened to my friend. She didn't shit for pretty 10 days despite trying pretty much everything listed on this thread.

catinboots123 · 11/02/2022 18:22

Sorry posted to soon - it was awful she eventually had to be admitted and have three enemas.

Me and our third friend were so invested in this poo - even more so than when she was in 48hrs of labour. I was kind of sad when she flushed it with no weight or name. We always raise a litttle glass too it ten days after the baby's birthday. GrinGrinGrinGrin It was a traumatic time

Glad you are better OP.
