Insomnia and anxiety

Has kicked off once again this week. Usually a sleeping tab will knock back my body clock but I’ve taken one 3 times this week and they’ve not worked as well. Last night it barely gave me an hour. I’m shivering with anxiety symptoms and once again waiting for morning to come. Any advice on getting through the day and some sleep tonight? No more sleeping tabs left although I think I’ve taken them to the max his week anyway.

I hope you find your solution OP and can share with me. I've been suffering the same for about 5 years now and it's getting worse. Used to wake up 2 or 3am feeling very anxious, now it's midnight or 12:30am and I'm losing my mind. I find work increasingly difficult as I need to concentrate very hard in my job. How does any of you manages work?

Mirtazapine is working well for me OP. Just on the lowest dose, but it has resolved my chronic insomnia.

A few nights of zopiclone helped. Haven’t taken any for a few nights now, not having very deep sleep but much better. Once I sleep again the anxiety reduces but when I’m the middle of the cycle it’s awful. I wish I had a magic wand for us all.

How are you getting on xx

I have cycles like this but not as bad as yours op.
I tend to have 4/5 nights of being awake from about 1 or 2 and then crash out and might sleep for a whole night. Last night was one of those. I woke up at 5 and lay there worrying so got up at 6!

Things that have helped me ;

  • Calm app - meditation/sleep stories
  • getting up when I wake up (if I’m sure I’m not going to go back to sleep) and starting the day
  • trying not to nap in the day (although have to at times)

Do you get help for your anxiety OP? Medication? Therapy? It sounds like you might benefit from something, whether it helps your sleep or not.
I find being anxious affects my sleep and not sleeping makes my anxiety much worse. 💐

I’m still on a good roll of sleep thanks for asking.

I had counselling when things first kicked off 25 years ago and medication. I was prescribed sertraline when I had the next flare up but forgot to take it and it didn’t really help. I paid for therapy then but she wasn’t really a good fit for me. 3 years ago work was very stressful and I found a therapist who was a much better fit and really helped. I feel like this is just me and trying not to get too wound up when it happens and let it run it’s course is my way of dealing with it at the moment.

The sleep/anxiety is very much chicken and egg for me.

Things are still very stable for me but I decided to start taking the magnesium before bed, have done for 3 nights and I think it does make a difference
