Head banger

I'm just looking to see if anyone out there can relate to what I'm going through at all. My son has turned 3 today. I was called into pre school yesterday for a risk assessment as he is doing it there and they are concerned and now request he wear a soft helmet. After chatting to them they seem to think it may be more a sensory issue as I thought it was through frustrations and not quite understanding his emotions yet. His talking isn't as it should be he knows alot of words but has not long been putting them together fully it's like rice cake please or juice please. He doesn't ask questions but he does know the alphabet and can count high sing songs. Autism has always been a worry because of the head banging but other signs are not there. We have good understanding eye contact responds to his name even tho it maybe selective! He has always been a fussy eater but that has improved slowly. If anyone can help or share any experience I would be greatful. The health visitors have not been a help and advised to ignor it which I can't do as he has bruised his forehead a few times. Thank you

It could be Autism - don't forget that it is a spectrum, so you don't need every symptom. Has there been any significant change in his behaviour recently?

No I wouldn't say so. I have been watching him close and it seems worse when he is coming down Ill. It's defo sensory related but too young to tell. No health professional are worried about his development just behaviour.

They also advised a gp seeing him. I have already had his ears checked just mention as well his dad has a cyst on the brain.

You might find this more helpful for identifying autism than the NHS website (which seems to have a restrictive definition of Autism): www.autism.org.uk/advice-and-guidance/topics/diagnosis/pre-diagnosis/parents-and-carers
