How did your life change after significant weight loss?

I've recently lost 2.5 stone, I'm down to 10 stone. I feel much happier and healthier.
Aside from the usual healthy benefits and the fact I can buy smaller clothes, I've noticed people now have more time for me.. People I never used to speak to at work now seem to have time for me. I also find I'm getting a lot more attention from men.. I feel like i will always have the mindset of an overweight person so really try hard to stick to the regime that resulted in my weight loss.
What has changed in your life since you've lost weight? Aside from the usual things.

@MushMonster

I have a question. Do people notice us more and are nicer because we lost weight or because we are happier? Because I think it is my mindset, I feel proud of myself, happy, so I engage more in everyday things and I have a positive mind about things. I think this is what makes people nicer. Not how I look physically, but the vibes I give.
No I don’t think it’s about being more confident, there are studies on it that people treat slimmer people better than fat people.

I've gone from 14.7 to 10.8, I had my own version of a diet initially but plateaued at 12st for quite a while, so joined SlimmingWorld.

I was overweight for 20 years so this has been a huge change for me. I've definitely noticed more attention from men, even just things like getting a key cut the other day the man in the kiosk was super attentive, previously I felt quite invisible. I'm not saying the male attention is welcome but it's certainly noticeable.

I wanted to lose weight for health reasons so I'm pleased to have done it, but I feel more vulnerable in a way, less strong. My brain hasn't caught up with my body I don't think, and I have absolutely no idea what clothes suit me any more.

I was 7 stone overweight at my heaviest and I lost it all in a year. Went from being a size 20, 17 stone and BMI was 39 to 10 stone, size 10 and BMI was 22. I felt amazing, it gave me so much confidence finally. I felt like I was capable of anything and I had the confidence to do basic things most people take for granted like talking to strangers and buying clothes in a shop. It totally changed my life, I wasn’t in pain anymore either. I had creaky painful knees when I was fat which totally disappeared.

I've lost 4 stone and I walk much quicker now, break into running for a bus (I've literally never run for a bus in 50 years!)

I never think about my weight now or what I can or can't do - I just do it

I never think about clothes and whether I can or can't wear anything - I just wear it

And even though I'm still slightly overweight according to bmi I am completely happy at this very normal size 12 - I couldn't give a crap if I never lost another pound

@HulahoopsBBQbeef I have similar issues. Lost 7st with Slimming World and gained an obsessive eating disorder which has made me more miserable than I was before.

Apparently it's not uncommon and I've met a few others in the same position.

I've regained 4st and whilst I don't like how I look I feel better mentally. It's a catch22

Stellaris22 · 29/01/2022 15:54

I've lost 30kg but done it by going to the gym with a PT.

The weight loss means I'm enjoying eBay shopping again, but it's the feeling of being strong through weight lifting I absolutely love. I can deadlift 90kg and close to doing pull ups. My hip thrusts are at 130kg. Being fitter means I can do more and spontaneously join in activities. I love it.

NutellaEllaElla · 29/01/2022 15:57

Mostly I just feel happier clothes shopping (now if something is unflattering, I blame the garment rather than my own body) and I feel that style inspiration on Pinterest or insta is actually achievable for me. And fewer backhanded compliments from my mother Grin

HulahoopsBBQbeef · 29/01/2022 16:17

@DoucheCanoe sorry that you’ve also experienced this. But it’s certainly reassuring to know it isn’t just me. Do you think there are solutions other than regaining weight? I honestly feel that’s what I will end up doing intentionally to get over the obsession.

DoucheCanoe · 29/01/2022 16:48

I'm currently trying to break the bad habits I built up, focussing on eating what/when I want and not bingeing for now as that's become a big stressor.

Three stone down and I feel so much better. No need to sit down when cleaning or shopping. I use MFP and exercise 6x weekly for at least an hour ( hiit, strength training and yoga)

I’m almost 57 and do not care about make attention. The ability to walk the length of a car park and through a store without gasping for breath or turning red feels wonderful to me.
