NHS HR Q - Moving from one NHS organisation to NHS England

In the hope that there are some NHS HR people on here! I've been in one NHS org for several years, I'm about to move to another one without any break but wondered if I'll be part of a probation period at the 'new' org? Also are there any other things I should be aware of? My current manager says I should wait until I have an unconditional offer before handing in notice but that seems daft to me when I know I'm under no performance issues or anything like that in my 20 years at current organisation?

Probation isn't a big issue it's more that we're getting a new mortgage so I don't want to cause any issue with that.

DD is moving from NHS Wales to NHS England and was advised the same ie not to hand notice until unconditional offer. She got offered the job before christmas and handed her notice in yesterday and starts in March.
She only qualified in september so not sure about probation . She had been working for NHS wales in an other job for most of last year as well.

Your current manager is correct. Recruitment checks can take a long time and if you resign before being given a start date then you risk a break in service. It’s standard in the NHS to wait until all checks have been completed and you have your final offer of employment before you resign.

I am moving between NHS organisations and waited until I had an unconditional offer before I resigned, as I would in any job. It took a good six weeks from receiving the verbal offer and that was with repeated emails and my new boss nudging things along.

That's really helpful thanks everyone. It's been a while since I moved jobs hence the question. II would need to tell my manager as she would be providing a reference - therefore in order to get the unconditional offer I would inform her but not hand in notice as such?!
