Anyone know anything about Mac’s?

Hello Everyone,

Hoping you can help me!

I need a new laptop and I have always really, really wanted a Mac. Never been in a position to afford one before. I’ve tried reading the technical specifications and they make no sense to me.

Anyone who has a Mac, or is more familiar with them could you give me a point in the right direction? Is there a particularly good model? Is there one to avoid?

I’d like a good amount of memory. My last laptop was a budget one and was terrible with memory! It never worked properly from the moment I bought it.

I really want a good one this time.

Please help and thank you.

Go to the Apple shop and you can try the different models out and get sound advice. They will also help you anytime you have a problem. There’s a live chat helpline too. Don’t go to John Lewis - they just sell you a box.

Re memory - what will you be using it for?

Avoid one of the old Intel MacBook Airs... you want one of the M1 generation of them - they're bloody fast. Air or Pro really depends on how you feel, budget, specs when you get to the store etc - I have a base model M1 chipped 13 inch MacBook Pro and I love it - handles anything I throw at it and my brain usually runs with like 20+ browser tabs open!

If anyone you know has access to uni days to get student deals - there's sometimes decent bundles going if you buy via the Apple education store (I know lots on my course bought iPad Airs for themselves last year and gave the bundled AirPods to their kids as Xmas gifts for example).

I used to work for them, do go in, I know we look bit nerdy but we are very friendly and don't work on commission. It really depends what you need it for. MacBook Airs have small memory and need plug in hard drives sooner. MacBook pro's are a thing of beauty but pricier. (Always use a back up hard drive anyway says the woman who was flooded 3 times last year!)
