He was 86 so had a good innings and a great life, but he seemed indestructible. I will miss him on the radio.

One of his favourite jokes, from the BbC obituary.

"A man drives down a country lane and runs over a cockerel. He knocks at a nearby farmhouse door and a woman answers.

"'I appear to have killed your cockerel,' he says. 'I'd like to replace it.' The woman replies: 'Please yourself - the hens are round the back.'"

Thanks for all the laughs, Barry!

And another............

Picasso was burgled and did a drawing of the robbers. Police arrested a horse and two sardines.

beguilingeyes · 27/01/2022 16:15

He played out local comedy club often, with Ronnie Golden. He used to say that he was so old, and life was so risky that he couldn't buy green bananas.
Goodnight Barry.

I wonder how many wonderful jokes he wrote over his long career? Must be many, many thousands.

Giggorata · 27/01/2022 16:24

Sad day today.

Version4needsabitofwork · 27/01/2022 16:26

I worked with Barry a clutch of times over the years and he was always a kind, funny and generous man. I'm so sad he's gone. RIP Barry, toodleoo.

"Diagnostic - a Welshman who's unsure if God exists." There must be hundreds of these!

Man is at his wife’s funeral & at the end of the service as the coffin is leaving he asks the vicar what the wifi code is for the church.
Vicar: “Good God man, we’re burying your wife!!”
Man: “is that all lower case?”
(Barry Cryer as told to Rob Brydon)

My Dad thought Barry Cryer was the funniest man ever so he ensured we were brought up sniggering at Barry Cryer jokes.

I worked at a venue used for recording ISIHAC and used to make sure I was working. The love for him from everyone was tangible. His heart was full of mischief and kindness.

ThackeryBinks · 28/01/2022 00:11

Absolutely loved him, a wonderful man. Very good at singing one song to the tune of another! RIP Barry Cryer.

WeAreTheHeroes · 28/01/2022 00:18

I feel the same @Ionlydomassiveones. Have always loved ISIHAC.

Tealightsandd · 28/01/2022 00:25

I was so sad to read about his passing earlier.

He was a very likeable and entertaining man.

Rest in Peace Barry Cryer.

I'm on the mailing list for the Oldie. This has just come in:

Every week, the late, great Barry Cryer (1935-2022) told Oldie readers his favourite joke or story. Barry was the best of friends to the magazine. We will miss him enormously

Alan Bennett sent five people out just to garner some of the things they might overhear people saying.

My absolute favourite was this. One of them was in a garden centre and he heard a man saying, 'That sundial I bought last year has paid for itself already.'

Not a Cryer joke, but one he approved of.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 28/01/2022 07:21

Another one.

You know about the guy who shot a golden eagle. He was in court in front of a magistrate.

The magistrate said: "This is a dreadful thing".

He said: "I never intended to. I was shooting pheasants and it flew into my line of fire."

The magistrate said, "Okay. Out of interest, what did you do with it?"

He said: "I ate it."

The magistrate said: "Good god, what did it taste like?"

He replied: "Rather like swan."

What a fantastic life, in demand to entertain people way into his eighties.. He always gave the impression he really enjoyed life.

BlackeyedSusan · 28/01/2022 09:20

Oh no, not Hamish and Dougle.

Funny bloke. Loved the parrot, hello Keith joke.

I never knew he had a number 1 hit in Finland, somehow both very unlikely and very Barry. Grin

Just heard another one on Broadcasting House, which for some reason has cracked me up.

Boss: Where's my pencil?
Secretary: Behind your ear.
Boss: I'm a busy man. Which ear?
