Peat fields and development

There is a wonderful 'protected' area near me. Acres of peat land, it's also a flood plain.
It's used by dog walker, children in the summer, bird watchers etc
They have been trying to build on it for years and planning permission is being submitted in 3 phases.
Now our local council with the government signed/agreed to protect the peat lands. In fact our council along with the gov are restoring local destroyed peat lands so makes no sense.
The planning is for another 980 houses, retail park - our town already has a retail park full of empty shops and a link road.
Next to this field is an old Victorian tip. This was levelled and is now a football field. A road will be put through there , removing some beautiful old trees.
The land is contaminated from the old tip. There are drainage streams with green rusty water. Nice.
The company checking peat depth lost equipment after it was sucked into the mud. A jvc digger sank in the mud and needed a crane to remove it.
I'm writing my letter of objection today, also contacting mp (Tory) and other local councillors.
We have had the environmental people and there's no animals/insects etc which are protected. The newts 'disappeared' 🤔
Petition is live.
Any ideas except tying myself to a tree that we can use to help stop.
It's all over our local social media.
It's so peaceful and helped my mental health when I needed a breather.
Any Mumsnetters local with recognise the area.
But east Cheshire council are going back yet again on their promises

I think (and I may not be totally up to date on this) as far as peat is concerned, it's considered to be an irreplaceable environmental asset, and as a consequence, the test of public benefit required for it to be redeveloped, is really high.

Your local council, should have maps on their system showing areas of environmental interest and their level of protection.

Thank you.

It's so frustrating isn't it. Thanks for getting involved.

Morning. I have sent 11 bloody emails to various councillors in our area, including the mayor and MPs
We have till 16th of this month to put in our objections.
It's so disheartening. It's the only place of natural beauty left in our area except the community parks 🙁
Hoping the local press catch hold of it
