Do you think politicians use this site?

What do you think?

OP posts:
meditrina · 27/01/2022 07:39

Nah, not any more

Back around the 2010 elections then yes. But the site has changed a lot since then, and there's far fewer threads and generally less discussion of issues unless they are domestic politics and top of the news cycle

TeenPlusCat · 27/01/2022 08:55

I think it would be surprising if at least some politicians or their minions didn't.
The threads re vaccinations, masks, schools etc give a good way of seeing what a certain demographic may be thinking. The threads on Boris will help understand the mood.

For those who care what 'women' think, this site is a good place to start.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 27/01/2022 09:01

I don't think they care what women think. They're too thick to realise we make up half the population.

SomewhereOnlyIKnow · 27/01/2022 09:02

I think they have their lackies check it for info .

GrimDamnFanjo · 27/01/2022 09:04

Yes.
It's a good resource to see what mostly women are talking about.

minipie · 27/01/2022 09:04

I think they probably have minions check it as a test of the mood. Along with various other sites.

AnneWeber · 27/01/2022 09:07

I think one of their minions started the ",Look at all the wonderful things the government have done" thread

Ijsbear · 27/01/2022 09:16

There's a thread about all the wonderful things the Govt has done? That's funny.

Camomila · 27/01/2022 09:21

I'm sure some female MPs/MSPs probably use it just as regular mumsnetters - they will have school age kids/annoying ILs/favourite tv shows just like other mumsnetters .

AnneWeber · 27/01/2022 09:22

Yes it's on the Covid board. Called "Can anyone see anything positive that covid has done in response to covid ?

scaredsadandstuck · 27/01/2022 09:24

I think their researchers do (minions/lackies is a derogatory way to refer to people doing a valid job, and most will be fairly young people, probably recent graduates) and I think researchers for the political parties do as well. It's a very easy, quick and free way to get views on a topic from a broad range of people (although they can't measure how broad with no demographic data). I often think some of the covid threads might be started by political researchers, and of course the flurry of Boris Johnson threads over the last week or so!

It was a bit suspicious how many replies there were saying that all the parties don't matter and other things are more important on another thread recently. That doesn't reflect what I'm hearing from people in real life.
Volterra · 27/01/2022 09:28

Their researcher absolutely do and have for many years now.

TulipsGarden · 27/01/2022 10:02

Yes, absolutely. I think the current government especially use it as a sounding board to find the 'mood of the nation' - so if enough people are saying , for instance, masks needs to go, they know they can lift that restriction without too much fuss. Fuck the science.

Bear in mind we have a populist PM who is very close to losing his job - he'll do anything to retain power.

FindingMeno · 27/01/2022 10:08

Yes, I would think so.
If the state allowed spy cops to have relationships with activists for inside info I wouldn't see it as anything of a stretch for them to monitor forums to gauge the public mood.

Or drive public opinion which is more sinister.

Did it get many posts?
pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 27/01/2022 12:15

Oh good.

Hello Boris or one of your minions

Please don't resign.

Your doing remarkable work for the other parties so don't give up now.

notacooldad · 27/01/2022 12:23

Of course they do! Well, if not them their researchers and assistants. The AIBU thread is so full of not really AIBU questions but questions to get a debate going and gauge opinion. Bloody annoying when they only post once and dont come back!

Lockedoorsopen · 27/01/2022 12:23

God yes. From both sides. And I think the teaching unions spent quite a bit of time on here also.

Boris get your house in order but don't resign just yet.

Agree about other public sector/not for profit organisations doing the same thing @Lockedoorsopen.

I'm sure commercial companies do it to e.g. the "Anyone tried the new blah blah? Is it any good?" type threads.

IglesiasPiggl · 27/01/2022 12:56

Yes, politicians, brands and journalists.

pilates · 27/01/2022 12:56

Yes I agree @notacooldad
