10 emails from a colleague in one day

Colleague is trying to invoke #weaponised incompetence. How do I tell them to fuck off and sort their own work out?

10 emails about what? The same thing would be beyond excessive.

In a lot of roles 10 emails in one day wouldn't be out of the norm.

Theunamedcat · 26/01/2022 21:37

Send it back with im busy doing my job perhaps you should call the manager if your finding your work load unmanageable

Longcovid21 · 26/01/2022 21:46

Yes. It is all about variations on the same issue.

Copy paste your reply and do you have a line manager?

lljkk · 26/01/2022 21:51

Is this daily habit or just sporadically?

Don't give them any reward for their efforts. Maybe one combined reply once a day in terse boring small words.

This is a good idea....

What is weaponised incompetence?

I've been known to send various emails on separate subjects to one colleague to keep everything clear/separate.

EmmaH2022 · 26/01/2022 22:26

Tell them "you seem to be having trouble with doing x, I suggest you ask your line manager for help".
LawnFever · 26/01/2022 22:29

Just suggest having a phone/zoom call rather than replying on email.

I’d reply and say we’ll get this all sorted much quicker with a call, are you free x time.

Um...I think you have missed the point.

Or I have.

WeAreTheHeroes · 26/01/2022 22:32

I had this once from someone - individual emails for each point related to one piece of work. Spoke to my manager and sent an email to the culprit cc'd to manager asking them to please send me a single email with a list of the issues instead of ten single ones. Much better to keep these things together. I frequently receive and send multiple emails from/to the same person, but that's because they're on different matters.

I probably have, I don’t really know what ‘weaponised incompetence’ means Confused

thefirstmrsrochester · 26/01/2022 22:35

I don’t know what weaponised incompetence means either, but if you have no managerial responsibilities towards this individual then….ignore?

Longcovid21 · 26/01/2022 22:42

Weaponised incompetence means doing something badly so you can get out of doing it at all... A bit like strategic incompetence.

I think you'll get clearer responses by actually explaining what this person is doing and why you think they're doing it A lot of people won't know what weaponised incompetence is

AuditAngel · 26/01/2022 23:02

I have one of these in my team too. It’s is so annoying. They are also winding up another staff member to be as bad as they are.

Longcovid21 · 26/01/2022 23:08

Yes that's exactly what is happening here too!

It depends. What have you tried so far?
Perfectlystill · 27/01/2022 05:24

I send dental colleagues more than ten emails a day. It's how our job is.
