If you have a freestanding cooker

What do you do with the gaps between the cooker and the units? Its unsightly and a pita to clean!

A shelf of tinfol over the gaps when cooking.

gamerchick · 25/01/2022 20:33

It can be reused.

My mum had a freestanding cooker, I hated it for this reason. I'd always drop a chip or something down the gap and be unable to retrieve it.

GTAlogic · 25/01/2022 20:47

Pull it out every now and then and clean the sides and underneath, usually when we've dropped a spoon or something down there. Otherwise it's a case of ignorance is bliss!

How big are the gaps? And is the cooker level with the work top? If the gap is small and the cooker is level with the worktops you can buy silicone straps from amazon which bridge the gap.
We centred our cooker and put wood inserts either side painted the same colour as the worktops. Game changer! I haven't lost a single pea or fork down the side in months!

I embrace the gaps
Hoover between them
Don’t spend my time thinking about them

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 25/01/2022 21:00

yes to the silicone doodahs....I am going to get some when the new worktop goes in. Although mine is a range cooker on legs so if anything does go adventuring down the sides/back I can get it clean by yanking all the roasting tins and random shite out from under wiping.

plantmadness · 25/01/2022 21:05

Yes mine is a range style on legs as well so easy enough to get dropped random bits up. The sides I get something long and slim and shove a wet wipe on the end to clean the sides

mayaknew · 25/01/2022 21:37

The gaps are quite big!

About 10cm all in so 5cm each side when the cooker is centred

Ignore them and pretend they’re not there Grin

(Cooker is “temporary” until we can do up the kitchen, is freestanding between the wall and a table in place of a worktop)

Is there a reason you didn't buy one that fits?

No gaps here although I do pull it out about once a year to clean under it. It's a tiny space underneath so nothing gets under there.
I should say though that we rearranged the kitchen cupboards when we bought the house and changed the worktops and doors which is why there's no gaps.
