Been with the same company 21 years - never kept CV upto date (I know, I know - stupid STUPID me)

Now am trying to do my CV - the time has come for change ... but although I can remember where I've worked - can I remember the dates??!!

Don;t even get me started on my education results ...

Help! Am such a twat. Would anyone employ me ? Am crap (don't have the gift of the gab) at interviews and think my work speaks for itself ... am doomed cries

After 21 years with the same company you don’t need to be mega specific… years would probably be ok. Your experience is in your current job and and internal job changes you have done. You need to get your current role to speak for itself. There’s nothing wrong with saying at interview it’s been a long time and you are a little nervous. Good luck op

If you're talking about more than a decade ago, approximate dates should be fine. If you have any old diaries/calendars/computers it might help you pin them down.

Education results - again, GCSEs/O-Levels etc. aren't going to be massively relevant (and old-style grades are meaningless now everyone seems to get ten 'A *' grades!). Just list the subjects you passed.

Professional qualifications/degree if relevant and recent experience are what matter on a CV.

I don't think the dates need to be exact do they? Can you just put the year or year and month and use other milestones in your life to help figure them out? E.g. I can remember what project I was working on when I went on mat leave the first time so that must have finished in 2012...

You need to think positive and big up your achievements! Do you have a friend or trusted colleague who can help with that? My old boss helped me get a new job, very lovely of her as it meant she ended up a person short.

It doesn't matter, anything over 15 years is ancient history and redundant anyway, just put years or approximate dates, they won't be able to check after all this time. If I was interviewing you I'd only be interested in your experiences at your current company as you've been there so long. Don't stress xx

If you really are worried HR will probably have your original CV on file, just say you're chasing up old pensions or something and need the dates x

OMG thank you all for your lovely responses 🥰 You've stopped me from freaking out!

That's good to know for sure 🙂

No real qualifications except GCSE (which seems irrelevant now I'm old! And they were certainly not straight A's!) But I can certainly big up my current job... hmmm 🤔 thinking cap on and back to it!

Thank You again x
