Sleep 2.5 year old and 9 month old

Just wanted to see if anyone else is in the same boat I feel like I haven't slept well for 2.5 years. My older son wakes 2-4 times a night, baby wakes to feed 2-3 times a night. I feel I could cope with one of them waking but two together is destroying me. We no longer have a spare room and both wake me up so I can't escape and get unbroken sleep. I just thought my toddler would be sleeping through by now. Not really looking for advice because I know it's probably normal and feel we've tried everything. Just wondered if anyone has been in the same situation and how long it lasts. It feels never ending. Thank you x

Flowers Commiserations, OP, it's so tough!!

Totally normal, my 2 are now 5 and almost 3 and it's still quite rare that no-one is up in the night. These days thought it's generally for a quick cuddle and then back to sleep quite quickly, unless someone is unwell.

The years of broken sleep have taken their toll, I've aged so much, especially since DC2 was born! No advice except go to bed as early as you can, it's shitty but I hear that one day it will end! I'm a very light sleeper which doesn't help, as soon as anyone makes a peep I'm wide awake and it takes me a while to drop off again. DH of course snores through it all but when it became clear this was going to drag on past the baby years I now kick him awake when it's his turn!

2yr and 11m here. So grateful dc1 is a fabulous sleeper. We did sleep train to a certain extent..... never cried for long.

What is 2 year old waking for? Are you still giving milk? Or cuddles? Or attention? If so I'd not. Just a simple- it's night time go to sleep works IF we get a wake.
Is 2yr old napping? Can you cut the nap?
Do you leave dc1 to self settle or are they waking and noticing you aren't there?

9m old the same questions really. My dc2 has only recently (touches wood) started self settling. We put him down and leave the room and he is asleep within a few minutes now. Used to take much longer. We still have a few wakes but I look at the monitor and check the room temp/comforter near and 9/10 he settles down again within a few minutes. If he gets really upset I offer water in the cot but not much anymore.

Thank you merrywifeofwindsor just good to know I'm not alone! It feels like we're the only ones amongst our friends with a toddler who is still up in the night regularly. He just kicks his duvet off and wants to be tucked back in, then he goes straight back to sleep. But I'm a light sleeper too and it then take me ages to get back to sleep. Then the baby wakes! We did sleep Train him gently when he was a baby and it helped his sleep and he went through a stage of sleeping through which was amazing, but I think it all started to get really bad again when his little brother arrived. So I think it's because there's a lot going on for him and he needs reassurance. Thanks for the tips, we try to not engage with the 2yo as much as possible and we have started very gentle sleep training with the baby. We seem to always have an illness or teething which sets everything back. I still feel the 2yo needs his nap, also because he gets woken by the baby early. I dread going to bed and it's not relaxing at all. Maybe I just need to accept we will be tired for the next couple of years but I just feel so low sometimes and I want to feel normal again. Thank you for listening! X

If the 2.5 year old kicks his duvet off and wakes up cold, can you put him in a sleeping bag instead.

Lolly2080 · 25/01/2022 13:02

We could try going back to that thank you for the suggestion

How about one of these? The gro company used to do it called Gro to bed but they're all out of stock. Basically a duvet that zip up like a sleeping bag but with the freedom?
