Selling my iphone after upgrading, I had no clue this was a thing, Do I sell it as is or sort it out before sale?

I had no idea each device has a limit on how many icloud accounts can be created on it (I'm sure apple users know this, But as a lifelong samsung user this would never have entered my mind)

It's saying I can no longer create a new icloud on the phone, but I can sign in using an existing one.

Do I just put this in the ad when I sell it, then people already with an icloud account can use it, or do I contact apple before sale? Is there anything they can even do?

It happened because when I first got it I used it for work, after a few months I then signed out and made a new icloud to use as my personal one, then my son took it once my upgrade arrived but couldn't get used to it which used up all three.

I bought the phone new outright and have the receipt.

Didn’t know if this

You need to do a full reset on the phone before you sell it. It needs to be wiped clean.

Ignore my post. I thought you weren’t wiping the phone. Just did a bit of googling and learned about the iCloud device limit. Longtime iPhone user. Never encountered it before.

Long time apple user that didn’t know this either. However, all is not lost - most users never see it because most people will stick to the same apple account they’ve had forever, which doesn’t count towards the limit mentioned.

Looking at the apple forums and this link here osxdaily.com/2021/04/26/fix-maximum-number-free-accounts-activated-iphone-error/ it would appear that while apple limits the number of new accounts that can be created from any one device, you can create an iCloud account from any other device and then use it on the “limit reached” device.

So for previous apple users buying your phone they can still sign in using their already created iCloud account, and new apple users can create an account from any other device and then sign into it on the phone.

I’d advertise for sale and be upfront about the issue, saying the link above shows exactly what to do to fix \ workaround.
