I need a car that fits a large dog and a HUGE pushchair.

Currently I have a Fiat Panda 4x4.. which I love...small economical and goes through anything.
However I cannot fit my Grandson's pushchair and the dog in! Dog only goes in the boot (we have tried her in back of the car with a car harness.. she panics) and the pushchair is a huge Mountain Buggy Terrain..needed as we spend hours out in the fields but it doesn't fit in the boot and takes up the whole back of the car.(I'm doing baby care on my non work days)
My budget it 7k max..so not a lot. I'm wondering if an older Nissan Qashqai might do? Or possibly a Peugeot Partner (looks like a van but might be practical) or Dacia Duster?? a big old estate?..obviously older models but that doesn't matter. A lower boot sill for lugging the pram into would be good.
Any suggestions gratefully recieved!

I have the MB UJ and 2 gsps and they all fit in the boot of my Mitsubishi Outlander phev.

At you taking the wheels off? As all mountain buggy back wheels clip off and on in seconds. Making it much smaller fold.

MyHusbandTheIdiot · 25/01/2022 19:29

I would buy a second hand out n about nipper sport or a Babyjogger city mini GT instead

We have a qashqai and fits a largeish crate with an umbrella buggy on top.

StillMedusa · 25/01/2022 23:40

The buggy stays.. we tried the smaller wheel (BJ GT) and while awesome.. didn't cut it in REAL mud.. I actually need the 16 inch wheels when I'm off road (twice a day) and the baby likes to be upright or he screams.. nipper was too laid back. The MB actually gets through everything.. bogs, meadows, you name it (I have a reactive dog so we do miles in fields!) so although it's a pain size wise it does the job, and I can't carry him in a backpack very far ..he's a chunk and I'm 54 with a damaged back!
I like SUVS ..hence my little but high seated and mud safe Panda, but am wondering if something like a Honda Jazz with its magic seat folds might do the job.. Realistically I actually need a slightly bigger car anyway as I've been basically cramming my 6 ft+ son into the Panda uncomfortably for quite a while (he has special needs and won't ever drive a car himself)..

Just need a Tardis.. smallest car with maximum space!!!

Second hand Skoda Roomster might be an option if you don’t want a large car. Not the prettiest but very roomy (hence the name).

PrayingandHoping · 26/01/2022 08:44

I understand why you're keeping the buggy. MB are fab. They go anywhere. I discarded the BJ at first sight as they are just so low to the ground and not as adaptable. Each to their own

Just go for boot size. Always first thing we look at when we car shop. Not even all SUVs have decent boots, the Tiguan's has no depth....

An estate car or long boot suv (do look up the outlander) will do the job.

Xiaoxiong · 26/01/2022 08:58

We have a Vauxhall Astra estate, the boot is absolutely enormous and the whole car is very low so easy to get stuff in and out.

I know you like SUVs but the boot sill is usually much higher in an SUV and you really have to be careful with boot space in some of the more "compact" ones - we rented a Nissan Juke in the States last year and we called it the Nissan Joke by the end, the seats angled back so far that even without the parcel shelf you could barely fit anything in it at all.

We bought my mum her own smaller all terrain pushchair- much cheaper than a new car even if you spend quite a bit. I had the mountain buggy too but there’s other off roaders and they sell on second hand too. Don’t need to change your car as the dog is used to it and so are you and it’s a super car particularly the 4x4 one. Just have your own Oran.

ParisNext · 26/01/2022 08:59

*pram sorry not Oran!

It would be much cheaper to buy a smaller pram, or put it up on a roof rack.
yorkshireteaspoonie · 26/01/2022 09:06

Citroen grand Picasso. OH had one as a work car and it's basically a van with more windows and gadgets! it had so much space and the seats reconfigured around the space/ items you needed to accommodate. It was brilliant

averythinline · 26/01/2022 09:07

Not a qashqai.....I like it but has a really high lip and if u need to put dog in back then decent size crate takes whole boot...
Estates generally have better designed boots or big suv ..vw Touran not bad alternative as squarish but not a great drive ...volvo Estates enormous boots and well designed old ones cheaper but gas guzzlers

Kiki91 · 26/01/2022 09:13

I love my Nissan Xtrail
Boot is massive

We have four dogs, if you put a dog guard in you could split the boot up a bit & you'd be able to separate a section for pram/shopping etc so the dogs can't get to it

Otherwise if you only have the one child the back row is large so room for baby and a pram (which is what we're doing)
