Has anyone had LASEK / TransPRK surgery?

Really hoped that I would be a candidate for LASIK but the moorfields doctor advised in my consultation today that he'd recommend LASEK.

I'm not sure whether to go for it, if you've had it was your recovery horrible? That's the only that that puts me off.

DH had lasek. I took time off work to make sure he was ok. At one point I phoned up for more eye drops for him, and he wasn’t allowed any more (pain killers). All right in the end, but it did hurt! I’d had the easy version..

I can't remember which is which. I had it done about 8 years ago.... I wanted the one where they slice the front off, flap it open, laser the inside and flap it back 🤢 but apparently wasn't suitable. Ended up getting the front of my eye lasered directly.

It wasn't very pleasant but honestly, not that bad and in the end I was pleased not to have to worry about rubbing my eyes and knocking the flap! The outcome was amazing and I'm still pleased with it.

I had it 12 years ago. Recovery is as a bit rough but once it settled I never looked back. I think it was tough going for around 5 days? A lot of it was feelings of disorientation- brain adjusting to new info maybe? It was life changing though, and I still have 20/20 vision.

I had it 10 years ago. First week is rough, 2nd week is easier. Introduced me to cocodamol!

One of my friends had it, and I think he found it painful/uncomfortable for a couple of weeks. He downplayed it at the time but I think he had to go back and get more eye drops and get checked for infection.

I was lucky and had LASIK, and as far as I can remember it was only uncomfortable for a couple of days.

A few years on both of us still have great vision. It was so worth it.

Can't remember which one I had, but the pain once the anaesthetic had worn off was horrific. I also discovered Cocodamol and once I'd slept for about 5 hours, it was bearable.

The recovery time suddenly seems so much more significant as I naively thought I'd have LASIK and wake up and be able to see straight away.

Maybe I just need to take the plunge.

I underestimated the recovery as well. Get someone to pick u up, I was in so much pain, and my eyes were absolutely streaming. However, you're right in that you literally sit up once it's done, and can see perfectly. It's only for those 4 or 5 hours afterwards that are excruciating. After that I promise you won't regret it. Best thing I ever did
