Unwell DD not eating or drinking

My DD 7 has had an almost 40 degree temp for the last 24 hours (not covid), it is controlled with Calpol and Ibuprofen so I'm not too concerned about that at the moment but she us not eating or drinking anything.

She is Autistic and struggles to communicate her needs and has difficulties with her receptive language so I am starting to worry. I have managed to get her to have a few sips of water today but hardly anything at all and her lips are very dry. Any tips on how I can get her to drink or do you think I should call 111?

Would she have an ice lolly? Very handy for getting fluid in to children.

I haven't actually got any but that's something I will buy tomorrow. Thank you

Would she have any fizzy drinks? Flat coke? It doesn't matter what as long as she has some liquid.
Ice cream or ice lolly would be good too.

Can you syringe it in?

Don’t worry about what the fluid is as long as she drinks it!

Can you syringe it in?

Yes, I will try that now.

Have you tried different temps of drinks? Super cold and warm? Straws, sippy cup, insulated cup, spoon? Jelly? Soup? Also have you tried painkillers first in case she's sore and it's stopping her?

I think if she's getting dry lips and not going to the loo you realty need to speak to 111, I know someone with autism who often needs admitting for fluids when ill for this reason.

Hope she perks up soon

Is there anything at all that she would drink, regardless of how unsuitable it might ordinarily be?

Otherwise yes, 111 with a view to A&E to be tested for dehydration.

How many wees has she had today and do you know what they're like?

GrapefruitPink · 24/01/2022 18:27

Does her breath smell?
I ask as my son stopped intake and had a temp and was tonsillitis.

We gave him the below to get something into him;
Watermelon
Oranges
Ice lollies
Yoghurts
Milkshakes
Squash

How often has she been going to the toilet?

If her lips are dry I would ring 111.

If you can't get out right now have a look at Just Eat or uber delivery, our local coop and One Stop shop are both on there. You could get ice lollies delivered from there along with any other groceries. If not Iceland delivery are worth a look, generally very easy to get a delivery slot if you need a slightly larger shop and I think its free delivery is less than other retailers.

If she doesn't want to eat or drink would she suck a flannel dipped in drinking water, sounds strange but it'll be cooling for her face too and good for her if she likes that type of sensory input.

She just managed a small glass of water and she is eating a small orange at the moment. She been to the toilet twice today.

I think I will order some lollys from Deliveroo or just eat.

If she continues straight to A&E. My autistic son does this and his blood sugar gets dangerously low. He ends up on a drip once every two years or so, for really bad infections.

Jelly is also good at getting fluid in.
